spot on injury wise I was there right in line with it Jimmy was never th same speed wise after that tackle Mackay cut him in two on a breakaway, Jimmy would have scored never even booked he should have seen red and been banned it was horrific never get away with that nowadays DB! it cost us game wise drew 0-0 got beat in the replay 1-0 at the base ball ground mud heap - as I left the ground a little Derby fan walked towards my brother and I - up the rams he whispered - - OFF we shouted in unison!

The great Roy Vernon evidently they smothered Young , and Vernon that night with a continental style of football with a fast winger trying to catch us on the break we had to draw the power house team in Europe first leg typical us!lol


I was there for that one, too. Vernon had a perfectly good goal disallowed. An unknown youngster named Colin Harvey made his Everton debut in the second leg...

....yep, just looked him up and he played 3 games for us that season. Probably a good quiz question in there about blokes who played for Everton and then went on to win the league as a manager.


.....answering my own question about Everton players who went on to manage a team to win top flight English title, I can think of; Catterick; Joe Mercer; Ron Saunders and Howard Kendall.
