The great Roy Vernon evidently they smothered Young , and Vernon that night with a continental style of football with a fast winger trying to catch us on the break we had to draw the power house team in Europe first leg typical us!lol

I was there and none of us could see ( or really wished to see if we're honest ) how Vernon was offside.
We were in bit of a post Championship hangover situation. The early games all our opponents were 'up' to beat the Champions, so with losses of form and confidence we weren't at our best...All this facing probably the best team in Europe, playing a 'strange' (to us Brits) system in a highly technical 'Italian' manner.

Result; we went down 1-0 over 2 legs...Everton that.

Anyhow, a few months ago I was on either youtube of maybe it was Pathe, looking at old clips...as you do. At the end were you get all the little boxes with the next dozen clips, I saw Everton Inter 63 - about 30sec worth. When Vernon scored he was, technically on side, but Young WAS in an offside position - he may have even played it back - anyway in those stricter days, a player right in front of goal in an offside position 'interfering with play' = goal disallowed

Tried to find it since but no luck...maybe somebody with more patience than me can dig it out, it's out there somewhere

Yes who was there centre foreward who punched the ball in the net to win 1-0 the game was on Sunday's itv made marodona ook like an amature a good no 9 for Burnley but a cheat on that day!
Just remembered Ray Crawford! did he play for England too?

Yeah, 2 games 1 goal. Ramsey was his manager for Ipswich and England. Remember him as a veteran for Colchester in an FA Cup upset. He said before the game to the press; 'Leeds are my rabbits I can score against them all day long' - he did, got 2.
