4th March 1964 - Everton's Captain Roy Vernon congratulates Fred Boomer Pickering following his hat trick against Nottingham Forest, Goodison Park - on a mud heap of a pitch - for @roy vernon & co - little did Roy know he would make way for Fred as it turned out, when most fans thought the GV would be on his way out -

Fred never seems to get the plaudits these days that later Everton strikers get. I’m thinking of Bob Latchford and Graeme Sharp in particular. I thought he was every bit as good as those two.

He was a complete no 9 nicked Boomer as when he shot that had the noise on the ball boomed ...
Sadly his cartridge in his knee curtailed his top flight career in those days - now it may have been fixable .... hecwas a prolific goal scorer forces & wherever he went in the division below.
