1997 - After nearly 17 years & 578 appearances for the club, the legendary Neville Southall - the greatest goalkeeper in the club’s history - departed Everton, initially on a one month loan deal at Southend United.
955 - Everton 1-1 Burnley. The final time to date that EFC have played a match on Christmas Eve saw the Blues pick up a point at Goodison vs Burnley. Local lad Tony McNamara scored for EFC, as the club remained 9th in the table.
1927 - Arsenal 3-2 Everton. A defeat at Highbury for the title-chasing Blues, but EFC remained top of the league. Alex Troup & Dixie Dean scored for EFC. It was Dixie's 31st goal of the season & the 9th consecutive EFC away game he'd scored in - still a club record.
