Looks like Stamford Bridge. Right old cesspit.

Possibly a reason why the players of that era were so technically good, their first touch had to be so accurate to control the ball as the pitches were often in such a poor state, unlike the surfaces that today's players enjoy.

On closer inspection of the pic it looks like the crowd behind the goal is a bit too near the pitch for it to be Chelsea.

Played 1899-1910, and later became a director. Had a house in Aigburth which he named Duncan. In 1911 he asked to play as an amateur but the FA refused his request. He also played three Tests against Australia.
