When I interviewed him, I asked the question as to why he wore it. It was something to do with UEFA regulations from what I can remember

Only colour available out of the colours allowed, due to Vienna in green and white & I think ref in yellow.

He says that the fact it was red wasn't even thought about by anyone.

..it's an interesting one, Bally. Potentially a good quiz question, which Everton player wore red when we won a major trophy.

don't use it as a tie breaker cos I think about 98% know the answer.

.....have to say I don't remember Southall wearing that top in the final.

I have a memory of him wearing it at home to West Brom in a league match around that time and when he came down to the Street End at the start of the match he was met with a huge chant of:

"Where'd you get that f$%&ing shirt??"

Edit - just checked stats and I am fairly sure it was 0-0 on 10 Sept 1983... so it was actually well before Rotterdam

i was at that game dont know what that reporter was watching, we were toying with them the first half, then went half arsed for the last half hour and let them back into it, most of us were thinking we had let them get the draw.
nearly ended up in the jungle, celtics end that day as we were drinking in the pub on the corner by it, and some big scottish lad who had latched on to us, said come on lads its this way as we left, we were all lined up to get in when the coppers, sussed out what was happening, rounded us up and said its bandit country that lads you are around here, that would have been fun a hundred or so of us going in there.
