The thing I remember most from that game was Whiteside winning a 50/50 with Peter Grant (wannabee Scottish hardman) and you could hear the collison from the back of the terracing.

Yep,I've heard about this game Eggs,I think the great man kicked the game off himself,I believe Shankly was in charge of the scots, may have been this game Alex Young remarked about how Shanks really boosted his confidence whereas Catterick was very cold towards him,I believe the gate was 40 odd thousand......in the pub yesterday and got chatting about a game that apparently took place around 1963. I have to say I don't remember it, I was a youngster but saw us a fair bit that season.
My mates said it was Dixie's testimonial and it was England v Scotland made up of Everton/Liverpool players. Ron Yeates apparently captained the Scots and Tony Kay the English. Wonder if any of the older guys recall the game @Steve Wigan perhaps?
From what I can gather it was played 7 April 1964.Yep,I've heard about this game Eggs,I think the great man kicked the game off himself,I believe Shankly was in charge of the scots, may have been this game Alex Young remarked about how Shanks really boosted his confidence whereas Catterick was very cold towards him,I believe the gate was 40 odd thousand.

Love that kit,it should be brought back for next season, classy
A couple of photos on the Everton Collection website :....it actually gets a mention on Dixie's Wikipedia entry. It was his testimonial, apparently the Scots won 3-1 with an Englishman and a Welshman in the side. Be good to get a bit more detail, what the sides where and who scored etc. Suspect somebody on here might have attended.
