Old Everton Pictures

Ha I can imagine...but I was only little and taken in the Upper Bullens for treats. I made up for it in the Street in my teens though the matches cant ever compare with these. Those crowds as you say were something else....even on these old clips, the noise is tremendous. The cameras/ sound pickup are on Goodison Road old stand obviously...wonder if that made a difference the crowd size apart (know we had much bigger capacity then). What a legacy we have from those days.

Too true, the crowds were incredible, oh whats the other word, erm PHENOMENAL!

To experiencing that back then compared to now one just cannot take it in. My Da' was at the game when the crowd record was set, I think was it 78,000!!!!

.....wow, some talent there at the Old Lady. beckenbauer, Uwe zeleur, Lev Yashin, Pele, Garrincha. Wonder what that lot would be worth today, still legends and all gracing our famous old stadium.

Leeds first goal IMO was a foul by J Charlton. Charlton was forever doing that standing right in front of GKs obstructing them. BTW I was at that game.
As a kid wuss in the park end it was a full house - my older brother had to park a good mile away - always remember Joe Royles header back off the bar - we stopped Leeds unbeaten run that day with a championship performance!
Great memories!

When I interviewed him, I asked the question as to why he wore it. It was something to do with UEFA regulations from what I can remember
..it's an interesting one, Bally. Potentially a good quiz question, which Everton player wore red when we won a major trophy.

Yes lads, read his book recently - he had little or no say in the matter.

The teams were in colours he obviously couldn't have, black was reserved for refs in those days and yellow was reserved for international games.

That left the only colour he didn't actually want to wear.

I heard something about him choosing it due to it being his national team colour.
Wrong sorry mate.
