That is Ballyholme beach in Bangor, Co Down. If I'm nearby later I'll try to get a picture as it is today.…fantastic picture, thanks for sharing. Whereabout in NI is that beach? I recall reading U-Boats surrendered off the coast of Southern Ireland after the war.
My Gran used to take me there when I was little - I'm sure it was salt water?
Hello mate. You don't say when that was.... I grew up not far from that area and still have family there.... dependant on the year, 3 possibles came to mind.... the uni of Liverpool sports grounds (now half sold off as a big Tescos on corner of Mather Ave and Rose Lane.)Not a photo from me but a question about something in Liverpool that's been puzzling me for years, hoping Eggs or one of you other lads have any ideas.
Right, when I started playing football in the mens leagues at 16 we had a cup game against a team called LUSSAC in my first season, they were Liverpool University I think. Their ground was by where the big Asda Supermarket is now on Allerton road at the Rose end. We pulled up in the team bus and offcials came out apologising the game had been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. They went on to say they may have another venue lined up so don't leave just yet. We hung around for half an hour and they came back and said we can use this other venue, so we followed their bus to it. Memories of exactly how we got there are not clear, but we turned off either Mather Ave or Menlove in to one of those posh tree lined roads and stopped at a very big house.
Wish I knew where but it was certainly in that vicinty...2 minutes from Allerton. Puzzled we got out of the bus, followed them up the drive of the house and around to the back. We were shocked to see an amazing full sized pitch there, luscious grass and beautifully marked out with really professional goals and nets etc. Blew me away as a kid, so unusual. Pitch was surrounded on 3 sides by massive trees probably 40/50 foot tall.
As the years went by I always remebered it and have asked countless blokes who played in the Liverpool leagues if they knew what I was on about, always drew a blank. Was in the area again last week and it's what me me decide to ask on here. Not worth its own thread so just thought I'd have an ask with you lads here. I'd love to know what and where it was. Many thanks.

Yes mate the university ground you mention was the one that was waterlogged. Again thanks for trying to help, appreciate it…..now that is a puzzle.
As per @Tim's tourettes i remember the University footy pitch well, it was on Mather Ave just up from Rose Lane. It had a long brick building along one side that was almost like a stand. Folk would watch from the top of it but I don’t remember trees. That was a fine set-up. Not sure there was a pitch behind the Police Training centre, Merseyside Police played for years at Fairfield.
There is a single pitch off Woolton Ave (Stevie Hill Memorial Ground?) opposite an entrance to the cemetery although again I’m not sure of the trees.
I’m sure somebody will know.
