Old Photos Of Where You Live

Thanks Eggs and Tim, appreciated very much. It was late 70's. The venue was a large house that did look private. I do know a couple of the venues suggested and it wasn't them sadly. Many thanks to you both for helping thoughđź‘Ťđź‘Ť The pitch was as good as Krafts which was on the East Lancs road and known as a gem.
If u do ever find out, let us know! I'll ask my uncle next time I see him, he would have been playing Sunday league in that area,in the 70s

Not a photo from me but a question about something in Liverpool that's been puzzling me for years, hoping Eggs or one of you other lads have any ideas.
Right, when I started playing football in the mens leagues at 16 we had a cup game against a team called LUSSAC in my first season, they were Liverpool University I think. Their ground was by where the big Asda Supermarket is now on Allerton road at the Rose end. We pulled up in the team bus and offcials came out apologising the game had been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. They went on to say they may have another venue lined up so don't leave just yet. We hung around for half an hour and they came back and said we can use this other venue, so we followed their bus to it. Memories of exactly how we got there are not clear, but we turned off either Mather Ave or Menlove in to one of those posh tree lined roads and stopped at a very big house.
Wish I knew where but it was certainly in that vicinty...2 minutes from Allerton. Puzzled we got out of the bus, followed them up the drive of the house and around to the back. We were shocked to see an amazing full sized pitch there, luscious grass and beautifully marked out with really professional goals and nets etc. Blew me away as a kid, so unusual. Pitch was surrounded on 3 sides by massive trees probably 40/50 foot tall.
As the years went by I always remebered it and have asked countless blokes who played in the Liverpool leagues if they knew what I was on about, always drew a blank. Was in the area again last week and it's what me me decide to ask on here. Not worth its own thread so just thought I'd have an ask with you lads here. I'd love to know what and where it was. Many thanks.
It was adjacent to Allerton golf course it belonged too some Ecclesiastical mob, iirc they had a couple of teams of variohs levels that floated about playing one off games all very Ad Hoc, a bit like The Ramblers.
One was called Convocation, if you had a bye in your fixtures you could sometimes arrange a fill in.
They weren't very Christian - if it was above grass level it got kicked.
I remember playing against them for Old Caths because I scored in a 2-2.

You probably went up Rose Lane, turn right along Mather Ave, turn left into Booker Ave at the Synagogue, head upto Caldies turn left into Allerton Rd.
About 2/300yds on the left there was a single width car entrance...basically a Muddy gravel track between those old sand stone walls, blink and you'd miss it.
They had old, really old ramshackle wooden dressing rooms and...I use the term very loosely...a shower made out of sandstone slabs with two 1/2 pipes...no shower head...with just cold water, very spartan and monastic.
The kids had fun though they picked a monster load of Blackberries
My best guess is its now a small housing estate called Sycamore Park,

Sounds like it could be I M Marsh Campus. There is a pitch behind the main building (below), and also behind Holmfield House at the bottom of Mossley Hill Road

Jeez mate, that could be it although it looks an even bigger place than I remember, I'll check it on Google Earth now for its footprint, that should answer it. Many thanks indeed;)

Hey Degsy, thanks very much for that detailed answer, it sounds very much like the venue, however other chaps have mentioned the Marsh centre and a pic has just been posted and it is ringing bells. I will check them both out now on Google Earth. Many thanks once more mate, much appreciated ;)
