Old Photos Of Where You Live

It's insane to me how boring everything has gotten. I'm out and about at the moment and everywhere I've been to

Greggs, Costa, Tesco Express, Wetherspoons, Subway, Poundland, Superdrug, Boots, Nando’s, McDonald’s, KFC, Lidl, Aldi, Wilko (or what’s left of it), Primark, Sports Direct, JD Sports, The Works, Caffè Nero, Starbucks, B&M, Home Bargains, TK Maxx, Marks & Spencer (food section mostly), Sainsbury’s Local, Asda Express, Vape shops, Turkish barbers, Nail salons, Charity shops, Betting shops, Empty retail units, Graffiti that just says "waste", Gulls circling a Greggs bag, Broken cashpoints, Buskers playing Oasis, Multi-storey car parks that smell of damp, The same new-build flats with a Co-op underneath, Abandoned shopping trolleys, Pigeons that won’t move, That one really aggressive seagull, A Wetherspoons with a sticky floor, An Argos that closed down but still has the sign up, A phone repair shop that also sells e-cigarettes and suitcases, Roadworks that never seem to finish, A giant LED advertising screen, At least one American sweet shop nobody goes in, An overpriced independent coffee shop with exposed brick

…I often say to Mrs Eggs, ‘just look at the detail in that building’ looking at the lengths they went to back in the day. Liverpool city centre is full of them but even outside of town, the banks, churches, pubs etc have such distinctive architecture in them.

I doubt in 100 years people will talk of todays new builds in the same way.

….the Littlewood Building on Edge Lane has strong EFC connections but during the wartime was used to build aircraft parts etc. As such, it was a target for German bombers and as I’ve mentioned before, there’s a myriad of air-aid tunnels beneath the building.

What I didn’t know is that there was a talented artist working there at the time who captured images of many down there;
