The famous exchange with Churchill when she accused him of being drunk and he said ‘he’d be sober tomorrow but she’d still be ugly’. Great woman and formidable fighter who did far more for this area than he ever did;

Isn’t there a statue of her and Ken Dodd in Lime St. Station, not sure if Ken was a Socialist though, he certainly wasn’t a man to put his hand in his pocket!

That quote by Churchill has been used with him saying it to a few ladies, if he did say it to Bessie he’d have received a smarter reply in return and maybe a back handler as a follow up! Bessie was a “ Jolly good fella” to those who followed her and voted for her in those days and she was a regular at The Liverpool Stadium a boxing fan especially when Hogan Kid Bassey was on the bill.
