On reflection, I'd prefer us to sign someone this side of thirty but no doubt he could lead the line for us for a year or so until one of the younglings fully makes their break through. We are going to need numbers and options, and we're going to be light of a senior striker if Rom leaves.

Sound signing if it came off. The fact that he never had the qualities of an a-list superstar striker, in an Arsenal era when that kind of player seemingly has been what set them apart from the Chelseas and Man Cities of this world, doesn't mean that he isn't a capable and well-rounded center forward of a slightly old school type. Even though I'd love for us to sign a boss no.10, I actually think a ball-playing target man like giroud would improve our buildup play as much if not more. Oh, and the development of youngsters like DCL would probably benefit significantly from having this guy in the squad.

Pressing is for the whole team, starting from the front, not just for a handful of players...
Don't get me wrong mind, I'm still very much on the side of signing Giroud. 30/31 isn't old for his type of player and I'm sure RK can get him putting in a shift. At 33/34 I expect we'd still even get a few quid back for him too if we wanted - the way transfer market prices keep on inflating. Don't see £20m on him as a massive risk for the potential rewards. The more high(ish) profile players we sign the more others take note).
