Transfer Rumour Olivier Giroud

I want him in, dont get me wrong (I've said so on here that he's a vastly under rated player, and that we could do with him here - been saying it for years if you check my posts).

I just dont see this one happening. This is different than the others we've signed where there is little or no competition...especially for unproven players at the valuation Everton have considered acceptable.

Once the Giroud auction gets going he'll be off elsewhere. Unfortunately I wont be wrong on this.

But where will he go then mate is the question, 20m+ for a player soon to be 31 will scare off the French sides that may have looked at him, in the premiership then we would be top of the pecking order - as he doesn't fit the mould for any of the other managers except Pocch - who has Kane and Mourinho who is gonna be spunking 70m on Moratta.

Think the combination of fee/wages and the player being in that bracket just below the very top puts us in with a very very good shout (Unless the player really wants to stay in London or go back to France)

Athletico Madrid and Juve both showed an interest in Sandro
Man Utd and Liverpool both showed an interest in Keane
Virtually everyone in the league was monitoring Pickford
Liverpool, Utd and Spurs all have been monitoring Klassan over the past season or 2

Ronk wanted the players in early to steal a march and set our stall out early as in "we're here, and we're back"

The new Ev, embrace it

The chase for Giroud is only just beginning. Whoever have revealed themselves so far wont get him, imo.

We'll see him eventually go to a big European club - in the same way that the likes of Mandzukic did.

Early days on this. It'll run a good few weeks yet and his agent knows better offers will come up as the transfer window machinery gets into gear with the return of squads from holidays.

Everton want Olivier Giroud to bolster their attack and will look to persuade the Arsenal striker to become their latest high-profile recruit.

Ronald Koeman believes Giroud, 30, would be a key addition to his squad in the expectation that Romelu Lukaku will leave with Chelsea and Manchester United leading the chase for the Belgium international.

Arsenal are in the process of finalising a club record deal of more than £50 million for Lyons forward Alexandre Lacazette, which will further impact on Giroud’s prospects of a regular starting role.
Giroud signed a new three-year contract last January worth around £120,000 a week and has attracted interest from West Ham United, who are prepared to hand him a longer contract and a pay rise.

Everton would represent a more ambitious move than their Premier League rivals for the £20 million-rated France striker given their desire to make in-roads into the top four.
However, there has been interest in France for Giroud with Marseilles among the clubs monitoring the player who is set to be sold by Arsène Wenger this summer.

Koeman knows he must boost his forward line with Bournemouth’s Josh King, Andre Gray of Burnley and Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney among those discussed, but Giroud is the preferred option.

Meanwhile, Michael Keane will undergo a medical tomorrow and put the finishing touches to his £25 million move from Burnley which would take Everton’s summer spending to £90 million.

In addition, Koeman has recruited Jordan Pickford from Sunderland, Ajax’s Davy Klaassen, Malaga forward Sandro Ramírez and Southampton right back Cuco Martina on a free transfer.

He also wants Gylfi Sigurdsson, although Swansea City’s £40 million valuation is likely to lead to drawn out negotiations for the Iceland player who is also a target for Leicester City.

Have we actually signed that Chump from Southampton?

Nah, he's a very good player. I'd say it was a coup if we landed him. I'm highly sceptical we can though.

If we really want him mate then i believe we will get him

We are in a curious position - regardless of your views on the manager or new majority shareholder (which only time will show if it's correct or not), the wider perception is we are a club seriously trying to push on, and in many ways that perception is the important thing here.

We can attract players who other 'big' clubs show interest in now but only if we have a bargaining chip in the form of an increased role in the team and the teams in the category below us - the West Hams etc, i think we have blown away this summer

No. Just no.

There was no serious interest or they wouln't be here. If a CL club w=anted any of them they would have gone there. Fact.

It looks impressive initially (all the spending). A top player though would look at the quality being bought and think "yeah, that should get them closer to at least competing for a European spot than of late, but (all things being equal and with me on board too) they're not the quality that'll take them to a top four spot".

That's what I'd be thinking too.

Possibly so mate

But coming into an Everton side structured around feeding a sole striker would be an attractive proposition knowing your walking into that blokes position - which if he arrived he would be

Throw in a manager who 100% can get the best out of his type of player (hell he did it with Pelle who is a fraction of the player Giroud is) and who will set a system up which aids him, guaranteed starter for a team on the fringes of the 'elite' in the league, playing in Europe still, and remaining in the very visible profile in the prem in a world cup year, even have a possible international team mate here already in Schneiderlin etc

It looks enticing if you put it like that. I just think it's a bit too early for a player of this quality though. He'll have many good offers to sift through and if one of them is at a club he can go out on the top with it's game over. And that's the scenario I envisage.

See this as well. He's nearly 31, so would imagine he would want a champions league club for his swansong.

Possibly so mate, it would be a very impressive signing if we managed it though.

Would instantly ease fears about losing lukakus goals for me anyway.
