O'Neill Resigns

Football365 mention that Hughes might go to Villa and then follow it up with this quote.

Slightly more credible is the claim of the Daily Star that Villa chairman Randy Lerner 'will move swiftly to attempt to repair the damage by targeting Everton boss Moyes', while the bookmakers have installed USA coach Bob Bradley as the favourite to take over.

How can they type that with a straight face. That website comes out with some shockingly anti-Everton stuff at times.

It may even be a legitimate quote. Why wouldn't Lerner want Moyes? He's just got zero chance.

Move along, nothing to see hear, these aren't the droids you're looking for, you can go about your business...move along, move along.

Read that O'Neill spent 82 milll pounds net during his spell. Didn't pay off really ?

It's amazing what he's wasted, really. Maybe it's not a case of Lerner being concerned with the wage bill by itself, but with what O'Neill had accomplished with it. I'm sure the flame out in the Europa League last year was a bitter pill to swallow for a club that doesn't have the best revenue sources. Maybe Lerner just got tired of funding his taste for overvalued English talent.

Could nto believe that yesteray.... although come to think about it randy lerner isnt exactly villa through and through!
theyre all in it to make a quick buck!

I think Lerner got bored 2 months after buying the Club, he would sell tomorrow, but theres nobody buying Clubs at the moment, Bill is looking 24/7 you know,

I doubt it. The knock on Lerner in the US is that alot of people think that he's too much of a hands off owner because he only cares about Villa. I think Lerner came to the realization that he spent 150M+?, Villa finished 5th, and still had a threadbare squad and if even if he spent another 150M in the next 3-4 years Villa will probably finish 5-8th (with maybe a 4th one of those years). Plus even if Villa does spend more money Spurs, Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, and Chelsea will just spend more.

Would hate to see Moyes go to Villa but I kinda think that we should maybe snatch up Dickov while we still can. I don't want to think of what might have been in 2020 after Dickov leads say a Yeovil town to back to back trebels.

If lerner was smart he'd go after Roberto Martines. I think he's one of those kind of managers who would be much more successful with a more talented side. Bradley would be a good choice as well.

Sven or Bob Bradley. The mere idea that Moyes would go to Villa is laughable. He would only leave us for Man U, Celtic or the Scotland job IMO

This is something General Charles Krulak (Villa board member) who posts on 'Villatalk' regarding the situation:

Martin's decision to leave was just that...Martin's decision. He quit 5 days before the beginning of the season. He was not pushed out. Rumors that there was a row between Randy and Martin over the sale of some players (Young and Friedl) are just that...rumors!!! There is absolutely no substance to the rumors that either player are up for sale!! Martin's decision was a surprise to the Club. Randy had spoken to Martin last week and on the weekend and then flown back to the US. This morning, Randy was informed that Martin had quit and so Randy is now on a plane flying back to the UK. Martin was fully involved in the Milner deal...every step of the way...from the very beginning. It is a good move when look at in totality. We have not suddenly become a "selling Club"...we have a good offer that makes sense. That does not make us a selling club. There is no question that if ANY Club has players that are on the payroll but not playing on the pitch...it is prudent to sell them if possible. As I know I have mentioned MANY times before, a Premier League Club must balance wages against revenue...cutting wages must include the sale of players. I have also written many times that we are trying to run the Club in a sustainable and sensible manner BUT the amount of money we have spent over the past 4 years should tell everyone that we marry this approach with aggressive ambition!! Some of the comments I have read are truly amazing! Randy is NOT broke! Randy is NOT selling the Villa! Randy has NOT lost interest! I have even seen comments about Randy's divorce! All of this is utter nonsense. Like all of you, I am not privvy to Martin's thinking when he made his decision to quit. I am sure we will read enough about it in the media. My only hope is that whatever comes out, it comes out on both sides. What I do know is that Randy cares deeply about the Villa!!! He cares deeply about the Fans!!! I have not posted thousands of comments on 3 sites without caring about the Club and the Fans!!! We will all get through this together...we will get the right man and we will continue to move forward. As I get more info, I will pass it on.
