I do wish they'd have given us Cherki instead.
We do wish that as well šŸ˜…

Dodgy as hell, from the beginning. He was brought last winter with a loan with an option to buy. The loan fee was very high which made it a transfer in disguise (due to limitations of the French football financial watchdog, Textor style). The option was activated in July for... more than agreed in the winter...

The lad seems a good character, and he did OK on the pitch. But he was very often benched without real explanation. We don't really know what's going on. It's like he never settled or the coach doesn't like him. He's never outstanding on the pitch but he is rather consistent. Some good passing at times, a bit passive tracking back his player at other times...

If you look on their forum they were gutted they loaned him out and was very much a financial decision as opposed to a footballing one.

Assuming weā€™re looking at the same threads, ā€œguttedā€ is a strong word.

It seems heā€™s a player they appreciated for his consistent work rate in a poor team and he was low down the list of poor signings they would rather sell, but was someone the club could get money for that wouldnā€™t impact the team massively. It would be like us selling Doucoure now.

Ultimately, heā€™s a player that neither Forest nor Lyon have fancied, which rings alarm bells however you dress it up.

You'll see the comments about being their "best midfielder".

we have TWO fit cms
right now

so we need him.

Heā€™d come in as 4th choice behind Gana, Garner and Tim. Heā€™ll get a few games and will add to the squad but, given how bad our midfield is, he doesnā€™t improve us which is (or should be!) the measure for any new player coming in. I would have rather given those minutes to Armstrong.

Thatā€™s Everton. No fit or cohesion necessary. Is he cheap or a loan? Weā€™ll take him. No worry about team need or other holes in the squad. Well bring him in and try to fit him next to our other new signings on a bench while doucoure runs offsides again and 39 year old young suits up at rb

Vicious circle really. We are in no position to attract top players and we seemingly have a recruitment team more often than not have a square pegs in round holes strategy along with rarely finding diamonds in the rough.

What makes it worse is with the kind of recruitment at the club you are basically replacing players with either the same kind of standard or less which results in the team being bang average or awful for a further period.
