Im not sure about your family, but if they break into my house, knowing ive got gun, joke or not, they know they iz gonna get popped.
Yep, it's the classic if you take a shot at the king you had better not miss, thing.
The two best case scenarios for a home owner or a) they have no weapons and b) they're trained and deadly.
If the homeowner has a weapon but isn't trained in combat situations then statistically they're more likely to be hurt with their own weapon than hurt an intruder.
