You know what I can't figure out? Transfer fees. Theres a "link" in the BBC today about how Arsenal are looking to sign a striker from RB Salzburg for 25m.

How does a player from the AUSTRIAN league get priced anywhere near that??

Why would league necessarily dictate a fee?

Would Messi cost less if he was playing for a Danish team than for Barcelona?

£25m isn't really much these days anyway.

Marcel Brands likes this

Because the strength of the league is a decent indicator of how they can handle a step up. Austria to the Premier League is a massive massive step up.

Yer messi would deffo be less if he was from denmark and played for a danish team when he came through

Look at the players that have developed and been sold on by RB Salzburg in the last few years and you have your answer.

Slimani gone to lyon, signed for 30mill gone for free....
Dembele gone on loan? Mad how the big clubs get deals like that, whereas we turn up and are quoted a fortune

See Danny Drinkwater has been shipped on loan again by Chelsea, this time to Turkish side Kasimpasa. What an absolute waste of a career, made a big mistake leaving Leicester

Came on a free, left on a free. Skilful but lightweight player whose time was over as soon as Eze came. Trained hard, never moaned. Sorry it never worked out for him but definitely the right decision.
Rumours of a big signing on fee and six figure weekly wage though right?
Saw a fair few people bedwetting when he chose palace

I’m sure his agent would have negotiated a signing on fee for a free. He had deliberately let his contract run down at Shalke. He would have been on decent money by our standards (which are not much compared to most PL clubs) and we certainly thought he would be a success. For a while Hodgson was getting dogs abuse for not paying him with huge ironic cheers whenever he came off the bench on 80 minutes at 0-1 but ultimately he was a disappointment and Roy was proved right.
