Other clubs summer transfers 2023

Arsenal sign Jurrien Timber, whoever that is a paltry £38m for them, by my reckoning that takes them sailing a fair bit past £300m. So is ffp just for the smaller clubs like us then ? It's just a massive joke, it's killed football as a competitive sport full stop.

This is what transfermarkt has them doing since Mosh arrived at Everton (in €). Like a €-400m since Arteta arrived.

So they are, if I'm reading this right, 721m in the red and for the last 3 years roughly £384m in the red, when you're allowed £105m ? If that's the case, why aren't they being investigated ?
Crazy, though I'm probably reading this wrong altogether.

I've given up trying to understand how it all works. I understand their commercial revenue is miles about clubs like ours but still.

Its the ESL through the back door.

Footballs finished for clubs like us now - the sooner the fans realise that the better.

I hope it all comes falling down like a house of cards.

You haven't taken into account commercial revenue or prize money for a start. You also can't just take the figures for one year on face value. Any profit from sales goes on that year's accounts. Any expenditures from buying is split across the length of the contract. So if you sell a player for a £30m profit, you could buy a player for £150m on a five year contract and you would break even for that accounting year.

So far this Summer they are about even on transfers in accounting terms which is what matters for FFP/P&S. This will obviously change when they sign Rice but they will sell Balogun for more than enough money to cover that off.

It’s not just player trading, it’s all revenues. Arsenal rake in a fortune from their tickets and have European football. Plus like all the top 6 teams they have commercial sponsors many multiples of anything any other team in the league can get no matter where they finish. If Arsenal finish in 10th Emirates will still give them tens of millions, if Brighton finish 1st they’d be lucky to get a 10 mill sponsor deal.

The other additional factor is the legacy assets they already had on their books before FFP, they can sell off a whole host of players to offset some of this Xhaka Partey Holding Leno Cedric etc. they had and have a load of good players that have value in the market they can sell for. Meanwhile the bottom 14 teams either have to sell their best players or get absolute pittance for their other players no one wants.

Lastly the academies of the top clubs are massive thanks to all their investment pre FFP. So Chelsea Arsenal City can just churn out some young lads every season and flog each one for millions. Arsenal could sell Nketiah Balogun and Smith Rowe for about 100 mill and it wouldn’t even affect their first team.

Most other clubs get practically nothing for their academy players unless they’re already a first team star.

But FFP is great though because it saves clubs from themselves apparently, thank god it stopped Leicester from spending any more money because they’re in such a good position now.
