Another team ruined by FFP.

Only reason why Newcastle can spend £40 millions on a back up full back and Wolves cannot is Wolves are unable to sponser themselves to the tune of £34m a season across shirt/sleeve sponsers whilst Newcastle can.

Utter farce footballs become.
Who paid 30m sponsorship for an option of naming rights of Everton's stadium?

Edit: just saw your comment that Usmanov doesn't own Everton. The level of naivety is off the scale

It's hard to believe, thinking back to the 1994 World Cup when football finally broke through over here. I seem to recall the 1990 coverage being buried somewhere like TBS. (I looked it up, and it was TNT. Close.) I don't think we could have watched the Champions League if we had wanted.
My introduction to the sport was a combo of ESPN2 (I think?) carrying CL games on weekday afternoons for a period and Fox Soccer finally being added to my cable package. I used to honest to god watch Everton on tape delay for a little before the illegal streaming system became more common.

So yeah when you look at even like the 2010 US side compared to now it’s a little crazy what we’ve got talent wise. A rather quick rise imo.

He doesn't own Everton in much the same way that Abramovich no longer owns Chelsea. The UK government (and by extension, the Prem) will turn a blind eye to a lot of human rights abuses, if there are enough pounds involved. Governments all over the globe get a little irritable when it comes to their security, though.

I have a friend who lived in the US around that time. He said it was possible to watch big games like that but you had to make some effort to find a bar showing it

He doesn't own Everton my friend thats the facts of the matter.

However its true that we've been done good and proper by the most corrupt Tory government I've ever laid eyes upon whilst Newcastle were given a lift up by the shyster that is Boris Johnson calling the shots to the PL.

Sanctioning Usmanov has really helped the Ukrania.... oh wait !

What made you pick Everton out of all the clubs to support if you don’t mind me asking?

Was it the Howard/Donovan thing?

We seem to embody everything you hate about football.

Those wouldn't have let me in at the time, and if I had beaten that problem I still would have needed someone to take me there, which wasn't happening.

A one off payment that would've been tendered out anyway (and still is I believe) compared to £30mill a year are different scales.

Chelsea bought another CB for £40mill.

That's close to a £190mill spent on CBs. Have 7 on the books now.

And signing Levi Colwill to a £100k a week 6 year deal (he's never gonna play).

All good.

Do FFP conspiracists understand there are other sources of income and expenditure than transfers? Of course, it makes up a massive part, but commercially we're well adrift of many teams in the PL, leading to a ~90% wages/turnover ratio (highest in the league, I think) and a desperate need to balance the books in a sustainable way.

Our season ticket is one of the least expensive in the league, and our stadium certainly isn't in the upper echelon of the league as far as current capacity goes. Add in the relatively meagre sponsorship income, total absence from Europe and some of the lowest PL prize money it is possible to get without getting relegated, and that is a far more coherent "Why" we can't spend as much as other clubs are doing.

Yes, rich clubs are gaming the system. With a more savvy leadership group we'd have done the same when we had cash burning a hole, but instead we absolutely bottled it. The moral high ground is most certainly not ours to take.
