I think its a good deal...upfront they would have Greenwood and Sancho as the two English 'wonderkids'...good planning for the long term.

Theres alot of English talent at the moment and United (and Everton) should be trying to sweep it up.
Yea but they could get someone similar for 30 million if they had half decent scouts, and improve other areas to help improve the squad overall. That’s why you don’t see City spend that money on a player and buy less known players who turn out to be just as good or even better.

Well, theyre paying the English premium.

Thats not a bad thing at all.

"The English Premium" so even if he's worse than someone from say Holland then he should cost more? Just because someone's English doesn't make them automatically good (even though he is good).

But what it does do is get the media and the press on your side.
If City get Kane then have got the poster boy of English football.
The England captain. Mr Football. The positivity that brings from the
media can't be bought. Same with Grealish. Can you imagine...
Kane goes to United or City and wins his first trophy. What a success
story that would be. That's what I believe the 'English Premium' brings.

Interesting concept that, that you are essentially buying into the establishment, or buying respectability into the establishment.

I also think with Kane if there is any doubt about City winning the league over the next couple of season's that just goes with Kane. Having such a lethal finisher in a side that creates so many chances is scary. Sort of like when Ferguson bought Van Persie, but that multiplied.

If you have players in and around the England team then:

Fans usually like 'local/English players doing well'....see how adored the oaf Michael Keane is.

Media tends to favour them and refs give them a pass

Sponsors tend to follow the names

English players dont need time to adapt

The top sides usually have a core of English players

Homegrown numbers...

United could have Sancho and Greenwood up front...that ticks alot of boxes long term.

Everton have Pickford, Godfrey and DCL...we should be looking to add to that group.

yes. There are only a small number of good British players, they will cost more than better players from other countries because they fill out the "Home Grown" quota.
This is why the big clubs sweep up huge numbers of foreign kids, so after 5-6 years in the youth academy if they make it, they classify as home grown.

I'm sorry, but the concept of someone rightly costing more just because of their nationality and not how good they are is just ridiculous.

Take it up with UEFA and the FA then
They brought the rule in to ensure that British players have to make up at least 8 players out of a 25 man squad to ensure Clubs don't simply fill their Squad with cheap imports
The lack of Good British players is the problem here
