Other clubs transfers

Are there any real potential consequences for clubs that aren't ever going to be in Europe anyway?

That I am not sure about. It certainly used to be the case, but it seems like domestic leagues have kinda developed their own rules to me. In the PL, financial rules only ever seem to reference UEFA bans mind.

I read somewhere that they might play Griezmann in a deeper position if Neymar arrives, too. I'd find the link but I'm not sure how.
I used to think of him as more of an attacking midfielder, or maybe a more technically/athletic version of Thomas Muller.

I thought that Messi would maybe drop into midfield after he had that very brief period of slowing down a bit a couple of years ago, but that seems to have passed now that he's off the fizzy drinks.

Over a period of time yes. Villa owners know for a fact that next summer a big juicy Sky cheque will arrive, so plan on spending now to make sure they get more than 1 of them.

Wolves did similar in the Championship; IF they didnt get promoted the year they did, they would have had a huge FFP issue with the EFL. If they get relegated they still might do; not certain what the run off period is.

Even if they go down they get 3 years of parachute payments to top the coffers up don't they?

Yep. Think the whole package, assuming the finish bottom of the PL is circa £200m. Its arguable that once promoted, a club is better off, long term, signing no players, improving no contracts, going down, then seriously strengthen the club. Like Burnley did, I think.

I was hoping that it'd eventually lead to better quality players ending up at smaller teams, which I suppose we do see a little bit of with the likes of Napoli, Lyon and a few Premier League clubs.

It's funny seeing United sweating over taking a loss on the likes of Pogba and Lukaku. For all Solskjaer's big talk about cleaning house after they got pumped at Goodison, the only one who's actually left did so after knocking back a new contract. The money clubs seem to be having a tough time offloading their expensive mistakes at the moment.

107 million for someone with arms this disproportionate?? Madness, the game's gone. :p

Find Atletico's attempt to claim the release fee wasn't met to be bizarre. Yeah, it was £180m before 1 July - doesn't matter when he started negotiating; all that matters is when he signed the dotted line on the contract. That was after 1 July so the release fee is £108m.

At least on the surface of it it's a complete waste of time to contest it.
