Then a week later I have to say sorry mate, we didn't get clearance, can you go back to your old job please. Oh the shame.

Why not just wait a few more days until he's got it sorted to officially unveil him? I appreciate we have to announce the signing due to deadline day, but how about keeping it low key until we've got the relevant clearance?
