The thing I don't understand is apparently this is meant to be a project for us to eventually be challenging for the league. Surely to do that we need to blood younger players and sign younger players who we can develop who will be here long enough to play and improve together.

Signing players who are old and past there best such as Stek isn't achieving any sort of aim as surely they need replacing sooner than later. You can't get any consistency if you have to keep replacing players.

I wouldn't worry about the players we sign now if you're on about winning leagues.

We need to get back to being a top 6 team. And only then we can look at getting players to win us anything.

It won't be an immediate thing is what I'm trying to get at.

I find it amusing that Niasse's goals for the u23's are used as evidence that he's actually a decent player.
When my son was 5 I used to inflict heavy defeats on him in our togger matches. By the time he was 10 the roles were reversed , with interest.
Moral of the story? We all look better than we are playing against kids, even Niasse.

Really, how much longer will it be before Koeman seriously considers giving him a locker and a number as well as contention for the first team?

I don't care if he's a "poor footballer", he's shown that he can score goals, set them up etc. Lukaku has gotten away with being a "poor footballer" for years. Niasse may not be as good as him but at least he'll work hard and run around a bit, something Lukaku lacks.
