The whole situation from start to finish has been a strange one. He'll probably go to Hull and boss it for them lol

He obviously has a great attitude despite his lack of ability, and that makes a difference for struggling sides. Even if he scores 5 goals for them it could keep them up.

He might do okay and they end up paying £8m or something for him in the summer.

All things considered, possibly our worst ever signing

If Martinez had even been doing a decent job, signing him was a sackable offence in itself

Nah, still got to be Per Kroldrup. Didn't he cost 6 million when we had no money, played one game against Villa and we conceded 4 goals.

Good stuff. He can look out wistfully from the East Coast towards his beloved Russia. 2-3 goals and he should get a transfer plus Championship football. All good stuff.

I guess he will start in the League Cup tie seeing as he missed out on the ACON.

Well, you never know exactly what to believe when it comes to transfer fees - but yes, we paid £5m for him (although also paid out £3.5m on Simon Davies, £3.5m on Phil Neville and £2m on Andy Van Der Meyde in the same window) and he played one game which was a horror 4-0 defeat against Villa (I think). In his (weak) defence, we were on a run on spankings around that time where we had conceded four or more (Bolton, Bucharest, West Brom etc) so I don't think it was totally his fault and, if memory serves correctly, we got about £4m or so from flogging him back to Italy almost immediately. He did look dire though (although he went on to have a decent enough career).

When you compare that with Niasse who cost £13.5m, we'd be lucky to get three or four million back for him

But we sold him for 3. 5m after signing him for 5.0 so didn't do to much damage or cost to much... niasse has cost us over a million in wages already plus about 13.5m in lost transfer fees

Bit risky lobbing him out on loan if we want any money back for him.

Fair enough if he goes and scores a few, but that feels massively unlikely. Odds are he will go there and be the player we know and we'll be lucky to get £200k for him.
