Joint with DCL, I think?
I don't want to speak too soon, but it seems like a stroke of luck that Niasse and DCL are coming good right when we need them.
The more sensible, of course, would point out that it's necessity that's forced them into their best positions, and maybe this would always have been the result.
Moyes was the same, there were plenty of occasions where his teams were just not working at all, and seemingly everyone but him could see it. He would persist with players, tactics, lineups that failed week after week, and only by the intervention of an injury or a suspension, would he be forced into making the change that people had been screaming for for months. The forced change he stumbled upon would inevitably pay off, and the media would play it out like some genius tactical masterstroke, while the fans fumed and just wondered what might have been had the change happened sooner. He too, was also an incredibly stubborn, and often, a very lucky manager, and Koeman seems to be cut from exactly the same cloth.
Do not be surprised however, to see us with the same Starting 11 next week (not including Thursday, as Niasse is Ineligible by Koemans own making). Martina will be back in, Schneiderlin and Gueye will continue to get in each other's way and Sigurdsson will continue to wander round the pitch like the ghost of a lost soul from a bygone age.
The only thing I must credit Koeman with at this point in time, is Dominic Calvert Lewin, who was strangely, and completely out of character for our stubborn illustrious leader, given his chance when nobody else thought he was ready. He then used his stubborn prowess to stick with him when it clearly wasn't working.
Today, and in a few games already this season, he has been a rare shining light with an energy and endeavour rarely seen in a team full of boring, pedestrian, slow witted centre midfield clones, even when asked to play at Right Back and Left Wing.
It's fitting that now, partnered once again with his erstwhile striking partner from the U23 team where he initially proved his promise, he is becoming our biggest threat and has added some much needed energy, pace and goals to the team.
Now someone just needs to convince Koeman that Kenny was his idea too.
