Jury by Match of the Day. If there is contact at any sort of speed, it is impossible to assess whether that cause him to go over.
Was there contact? - Yes. Was it soft? - yes!
Soft but no simulation

He isnt being charged for that though. Hes being charged or making the most of it basically. And being crap at diving. Simulation is when there is no contact.

Its a real pudding of a precedent.

The only good that may come of this is that the team have a sense of injustice and get the job done in his absence.

This will be like one of those short run fads - like the punishment of a bit of pulling of shirts in the box from corners that saw pens awarded early last season.

We pay though and others wont.

Players either dive without any contact or go down too easily with minimal contact, Niasse did the latter. Personally I think it’s wrong, but it’s not illegal. These pundits have been claiming for years that there are fouls and penalties where most fans think there has been no offence. I hope this case brings it all out into the open and acts as a stimulus to sort it out once and for all.......

To be fair to niasse Scott dann elbows him in the chest. He was running quite quickly when the contact happened, yeah He has gone down easily but I’ve seen them given for a lot less.
What a rat dann is tho, why grass on him now it’s not gonna change a thing. Pure kopite and no mistake.

It';s so arbitrary this law. If a player decides not to make an official complaint then that's the end of the matter. So if that had been Mane who Dann came into contact with and won the pen off he'd never in a million years report that as a "con". And that's the end of the matter.

It's a complete 'kin mess of a rule.

Brighton didn't get a pen last night will they retrospectively get the chance to take one in their next match against Stoke?

Or Bernardo Silva not getting anything against him.

Surely st steven of our favourite devils spawn has provided us with the perfect precedent for avoiding a ban here?
Cast your minds back to Sheffield utd v Liverpool on the opening day of the season a few years ago.
Gerrard goes down, no contact, penalty. The referee later explains he gave the decision due to the defenders 'intent to foul'
Minimal contact or not, stepping across a player, running at pace with the intention of blocking him off falls under 'intent to foul'?

Yep I remember it mate and it was the first thing that came to my mind. Surely we can say Danns intent was to bodycheck but he's that crap a defender he only got it half right

No doubt we'll lose the appeal but I hope we appeal the appeal because there was contact, it was a pen, Oumar should just admit he's too crap to even attempt to dive and that will be the end of it.

What is going down too easily?

If there is contact made your going to go down most of the time, if I go to ground I would just get straight back up and move on. The ref has made the decision to award the pen based on what he has seen. There has been no deception at all.

It's about time they came down on defensive cheating too. How many times have we seen a defender clearly obstruct an attacker whilst making no attempt to play the ball, I'm all for shoulder to shoulder but I'm my opinion, if you move away from the ball to block off a player that's obstruction and a foul

Well this panel think that the ref had his mind made up cos of how he went down, not that there was an actual foul.

The more you think about it, the bigger the nonsense it is.

The inconsistencies of referees should be brought to the fore and under the microscope with the precedent being made by this. The phrase "Ive seen them given" - the default reasoning of all these pundits, including the "retrospective panel" member Danny Murphy - should therefore be redundant from now on if slight contact equals the Phil Neville definition of a definite dive. Will there now be a glut of defenders registering complaints to examine penalties...I'm not sure. But you can bet your bottom dollar that should a serial easy faller like Young at Man Utd be brought up as often as he should be given his antecedents, the likes of his manager Mourinho will be clamouring for definitive camera evidence to corroborate any ban.
