Our perception in within the media..........

Last year the media thought we as a club should accommodate a defender who was guaranteed to give goals away and lose us points. They, almost to a man, insisted we should indulge this bright young English talent even though it was definitely to the detriment of the team.

That's how little they think of Everton.

Exactly,ex players not even involved with Southampton or Everton stating Southampton are a bigger/better proposition than us.
Most of the ex players u are talking abt have never won f.all what S'ton have done in last 8-10 years is produce /sign ,via academy mainly lots of top players from Walcott,Bale to Lallana,Mane etc,etc more than any other premier league team by far, it's still not got them anywhere ,imagine if we had signed ,nurtured all those players and sold them nobody would be going to goodison anymore I think that's why the so called media r giving soton a little bit of credit.Talk sport is ok because it's always right up to date unlike the useless BBC and local media .Happy new year.

As long as we act like soft arses, the media will treat us in such a way.

That article in the Guardian this week was old old news, yet it's only now getting national attention.

We continue to play footballs 'nice guys' we will never get anything more than a pat on the head from the media.

All of this will happen whilst the Kopite Journo's continue to try and sell our players.

...to be honest, the only way we turn around perception is via results and success. Folk will continue to undermine us because we undermine ourselves on the pitch. Nothing will change until we change, nothing will be good until we are good.

As always, you're the voice of reason mate.

I can't get remotely worked up by what the media say, a lot of which is said to provoke a reaction. Essentially they're WUMs and there's enough of those on GOT without me listening to them on the radio as well.

If we're successful, they'll say nice things, but I'm unlikely to be listening to them anyway.

I don't live in the UK so am not tuned into the media zeitgeist vis a vis Everton.
But, to suggest that we are not an elite club, one of the best in England, is just being head-in-sand.
I lived in UK in the 80s and the media was full of praise for us then.
Presently, we have the best squad in a generation and I find it hard to believe that the media are not nowadays similarly effusive in their praise of us. Hell, four of our players would walk into a PL 1st XI selection (Seamus, Bainsey, Ross and Rom). And Super Kev as wingman would be knocking on the selection door. We are very close to having the media dote on us.I suggest getting Gibbo fit and raring is all that is needed to unlock an avalanche of media accolade.

Sorry if this comes across as patronising but for the likes of myself who have seen the good times from the sixties onwards, our demise in the Premier era leading to us being cannon fodder from no mark pundits, hurts massively. But the damage is self inflicted so we have nobody to blame but ourselves and by that I obviously mean those in charge of running the club.
I have said many times that the fact that the club still strives for the big time is due solely to the passionate support from the fans. Last night being a prime example.
I am well and truly immune to what the media say about us, and when the good times come again, which they will, I still won't give a flying toss. And for all those masochists amongst us stop listening to Talksport. I did and feel oh so much better for it.

Absolutely spot on. 100% correct. Let's face it the only people who regard us a big club are........us. Outside our fanbase we have an image of a generally reasonably respected and historic club which doesn't really matter.

We win nothing. We never really challenge to win anything the odd cup run excepted and we don't reach finals in cups anyway. We are absolutely terrified of playing our local rivals ( we are so please don't annoy me by disagreeing ) and we fantasise about the past.

Until some or all of this changes we will always be the plucky little club that tries to kick Liverpool off the park twice a year.

I think talksport are right,we are seriel losers.
how many titles you won half a century ago means nothing, ask Blackburn, notts forrest, villa etc.
we have never beaten the rs in a semi or final and go weak at the knees everytime they turn up,
haven't won at analfield 20 years, cant even fluke one at home.
no trophies for god knows how long and empty promises from the board!
we are just there to make the numbers up atm, were is the evidence otherwise!

Subtle as a sledgehammer, but nothing in there to disagree with.

It gives me no pleasure saying you are totally correct - which you are on every point. However you are totally correct on every point.

We have never been popular with the media even when we were successful going right back to the Catterick era when he banned them from the club.
At the same time the RS had a scottish Oscar Wilde spouting words of wisdom with the press lapping it up.I really hope that over 50 years later it isnt all starting again with the press following Klopp around as though he is a modern day messiah.
