Blues,

We're busier than ever;

Screen Shot 2016-06-24 at 21.08.44.webp

This has prompted us, over in our plush mod central - to discuss our moderating stance for the season ahead.

The crux of the discussion is - can we moderate GrandOldTeam a little more leniently? Have we as a moderating setup become a bit miserable? (don't answer that...).

Anyway - it would be good to have some feedback on the below.
  • What should the moderating warning system be?
As in, how should the moderators of your Everton forum, moderate.

We last revised our community guidelines in 2008 - I think they're still applicable, but I think we could improve on how we ask and prompt the community to follow the guidelines.

Currently, if a moderator sees a post that goes against our guidelines - they hit 'warn' and have a predetermined setup like so;

Screen Shot 2016-06-24 at 20.53.51.webp

These allocate warning points - as below;

Warning System
30 Points = Suspended for 2 Days.
60 points = Suspended For 7 Days.
80 points = Suspended For 14 Days.
100 points = Permanently Banned.

Inappropriate Language: 10 points
General Behaviour Warning: 20 points
Off Topic: 20 points
Minor Spamming: 20 points
Posting Abusive/Offensive Material: 60 points
Spammed Advertisements: 100 points
10 and 20 point infractions expire after 30 days, the rest after 45 days.

The lower value warnings can be issued as a warning (0 points) at the discretion of the staff member.

You will be automatically notified via private message if you receive a warning - meaning the points wont mount up without you realising.

So...
Can our system be better?

Is it easily understood?

Is it fair?

How do we keep GrandOldTeam 'sound' and civil, but don't go to far and lose the fun.

Above all - If you could setup the moderating structure for GOT, what would it be?

I know it's difficult blues, but serious suggestions/feedback please...

Disappointed that this thread has deteriorated into a complete waste of time - for me at least.

Several on here - similar to the miserable arl git at the bar who thinks he owns it, are very quick to cite 'the old days' and quick enough to moan about the present - but when the moderators look for some feedback, they offer nothing by way of sensible, genuine feedback and/or solutions. Instead, they in effect, sabotage a genuine attempt to improve the forum with a load of nonsense... well done you.

Still, nice one to the few who contributed in response to the opening post - I've concluded;
  • Majority consider the existing moderation to be very good;

Others want moderating to be more strict, others less strict - wanting more 'popcorn' and freedom to 'take the piss' for 'fun'. This is fine, but of course it's all down to context. This is what I'd encourage moderators to follow as a rule of thumb;

As for immediate improvements for the new season;
  • Improvements
- More moderators, consider time zone.
- Users to see see their own warning points.
- Consider changing weighting of warning points, particularly for off topic posts;

- More leniency outside the Everton forum - less thread bans/thread closures.

To conclude, I think it's worth highlighting that some would do well to remember that moderators on here are volunteers who do their best to make this place the best place on the internet for Evertonians. We won't always get it right, but it's not all on the moderators to make GOT be the best it can...

Sorry Danny but while I agree that this forum has been very well moderated over the years, you're not going to sit here and tell me that this place is the same as it was when it first started in terms of the tone and what's been allowed to be posted or responded to. To dismiss anyone saying that things were different in "the old days" and effectively saying that it's just business as usual lets me know you're either a bit out of touch with what's gone on here over the years or you are aware but just don't care. I'm going to go with the latter since you're on here on a fairly regular basis.

Either way, don't patronize your posters with how THIS thread has "deteriorated into a complete waste of time" when the same could easily be said for many other threads that actually did deteriorate into a complete waste of time and yet there were no condescending comments from the forum administrator. Because you say it's nonsense doesn't make it so.

Please consider that it's this exact attitude that has caused many loyal GOT members to move on from GOT, never to return. Don't think that's the goal GOT is going for but rather, an inclusive community for ALL Evertonians, regardless of race, religious beliefs, politics, etc....

That's alright then.

He was just 'joking' - as I'm sure he was on the other 50+ occasions a moderator has to tell him his post wasn't acceptable...

Again - that post was the 4th picked up in a month - by 3 different moderators - 2 of which doctored the points to allow him to remain.

It was a match thread mate in the Everton forum.

It's not 'typical' on here.

So if it's ok with you, I'd rather not Everton match threads in Everton's biggest forum be containing posts which advocates the sexual assault of women as a good thing. I don't find it funny, anyone who does is a freak.

Still, click here - go past Grandoldteam and find another forum and see how you get on there.

When was the last time you had a vacation mate? Unbelievable. Really.

Nope. I just wished you had used a statistical graph that wasn't easily debunked.

Other than that, I posted that hoping you'd see that and consider it rather than just throwing it to the side. Wasn't personal. Never was, never will be.

Great.

I didn't.

I don't care? Sound mate.

Probably should stop paying more than the average UK mortgage a month on this place.

In my opinion...

Disappointed that this thread has deteriorated into a complete waste of time - for me at least.

It has - it turned into this;

Lads this thread was for feedback, not a general insults opportunity.

Just sayin', is all...

As in - this stuff wasn't/isn't helpful;

Makes no sense.

Because you say it's nonsense doesn't make it so.

Doesn't it?

Thanks for that.

People come, people go - in any community.

Frankly, it's astonishing vs most forums that so many people are still here approaching 10 years.

I'm sure we can club together.

Please put a donate page for rep on the front page and we will energise the masses.

Is this developer reliable?

No idea. Someone took the old rep system which was took offline as it was no good (security risk) and gave it to a developer. See here;

This is him;

I think it was 1,500 or 2,000 he quoted.
