Blues,

We're busier than ever;

This has prompted us, over in our plush mod central - to discuss our moderating stance for the season ahead.

The crux of the discussion is - can we moderate GrandOldTeam a little more leniently? Have we as a moderating setup become a bit miserable? (don't answer that...).

Anyway - it would be good to have some feedback on the below.
  • What should the moderating warning system be?
As in, how should the moderators of your Everton forum, moderate.

We last revised our community guidelines in 2008 - I think they're still applicable, but I think we could improve on how we ask and prompt the community to follow the guidelines.

Currently, if a moderator sees a post that goes against our guidelines - they hit 'warn' and have a predetermined setup like so;

Screen Shot 2016-06-24 at 20.53.51.webp

These allocate warning points - as below;

Warning System
30 Points = Suspended for 2 Days.
60 points = Suspended For 7 Days.
80 points = Suspended For 14 Days.
100 points = Permanently Banned.

Inappropriate Language: 10 points
General Behaviour Warning: 20 points
Off Topic: 20 points
Minor Spamming: 20 points
Posting Abusive/Offensive Material: 60 points
Spammed Advertisements: 100 points
10 and 20 point infractions expire after 30 days, the rest after 45 days.

The lower value warnings can be issued as a warning (0 points) at the discretion of the staff member.

You will be automatically notified via private message if you receive a warning - meaning the points wont mount up without you realising.

So...
Can our system be better?

Is it easily understood?

Is it fair?

How do we keep GrandOldTeam 'sound' and civil, but don't go to far and lose the fun.

Above all - If you could setup the moderating structure for GOT, what would it be?

I know it's difficult blues, but serious suggestions/feedback please...

That was aimed at corning me. It's a common joke. I forgive him.

Sexual assault isn't funny.

To add, that post alone triggered his eventual ban - it totted up his previous 3 live warning points - 2 of the 3 live warning points had their points doctored by mods to avoid suspending/banning him as is. This was December alone;

So, he wasted moderator time by showing a complete lack of courtesy and respect to them and the community - and moderator time continues to be wasted here by explaining - hence why we won't be making a habit of explaining bans but here, it demonstrates how moderators do give plenty of warning...

It was said in complete jest. A ludicrous statement. It was apparent.

Everyone knows sexual assault isn't funny but it was a dry comment aimed a winding up me as I hate Phil Taylor.

It wasn't endorsing sexual assault and no one took it that way surely. It should carry the same weight as people joking about the Wirral incestuously bumming their sisters.

That thread was one that I guess you had to know the previous form for.

As a stand alone post, that does look shocking, but the nature of that thread it was typical.

That's alright then.

He was just 'joking' - as I'm sure he was on the other 50+ occasions a moderator has to tell him his post wasn't acceptable...

Again - that post was the 4th picked up in a month - by 3 different moderators - 2 of which doctored the points to allow him to remain.

It was a match thread mate in the Everton forum.

It's not 'typical' on here.

So if it's ok with you, I'd rather not Everton match threads in Everton's biggest forum be containing posts which advocates the sexual assault of women as a good thing. I don't find it funny, anyone who does is a freak.

Still, click here - go past Grandoldteam and find another forum and see how you get on there.

Its not a case of 'which mod do you like'.

Its a case of seeing moderators give their views on things. As I said it often improves the quality of the threads where it happens.

Micknick could be busy doing something else entirely. Maybe it might be best to call him something else other than 'moderator'.

If he's doing IT support - something like 'Infrastructure Admin' or something.

Then people would understand why he posts rarely.

What I'm saying is that the quality of threads stays higher when moderators are participating.
Mick posts all the time and the EU thread was started by him last week.

I sense an ulterior motive here.

@Woolly Blue made up an excuse to leave the mods because @GrandOldTeam is the Van Gaal of Forum Managers.
Oh wow.

Aye the amount of warnings is a fair point.

I assumed it was in the Phil Taylor thread ?

No idea how that would even get mentioned in the Everton forum ?

You assumed wrong.

As most do on here with regards to moderator banning.

We don't setup a platform, pay for increased server capacity, invest tons of time into attracting people to GOT and moderate it - to ban people. We always ask them to play the game to, we only perma ban when we become exhausted.

Oh, no arguments from me and you are in a great position going forward with your forum.
I only mentioned BMG as I thought it was in the Taylor thread, which was a bit of an odd thread.

Can we have the reputation system back please and we will pipe right down.
