Martin O'Neill has rubbished suggestions that Aston Villa have offered a two-year contract to Michael Owen.

Owen's future has been the subject of intense speculation since Newcastle suffered relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season.

The striker has been linked with several top-flight sides after rejecting reports that he could quit football this summer.

Villa are one club to have been connected with Owen and newspaper stories claimed on Monday they were ready to bring him in.

It was suggested that Villa were prepared to hand Owen £million per year for two seasons, with a further 12-month option dependent on injuries and goals.

However, Villa have released a statement on their official website to make it clear that there is no truth in the reports.

"Martin O'Neill has this evening dismissed stories suggesting Villa have offered Michael Owen a two-year contract," read the statement.

BOOOM!

He'll be in a blue shirt soon.

Must admit, makes me chuckle to see the headline about Michael Owen to Villa rumour in the Championship section on the Sky Sports website. Where he belongs.

owen will always be seen as a dangerous, potent forward, even though his best days are behind him, and he is er, let's say, injury prone.

Said it before, I would welcome him at Goodison, albeit for one season ,more out of curiosity than anything else.

I have it on good authority that Owen has been offered a sizeable contract and were just waiting on his decision. Dunno any more than that sorry. We should find out pretty soon though!

Your contacts have been superb in the past.

Lets hope so.

Nothing personal but I hope that you're wrong on this.
