Ahh right, well I've never seen the fella myself and I'm going on what the missus tells me, he's definitely a hooter whatever he is.

I bow to your obviously superior knowledge of hooters.

Apologies for coming into this thread late. You are indeed right mate, a Barn Owl does not hoot, it,ll be a Tawny Owl. A Barn Owl screeches or hisses , hence its nickname " the Screech Owl ".


For those interested The Hawk and Owl Trust is the only charity in the UK dedicated to the conservation of Owls and Birds of Prey in the UK. Without them the Barn Owl and other species like Hen Harrier would be in serious trouble in the UK.

if you're ever privileged to see a Barn Owl hunting it's something you'll never forget .
