Panorama to question ownership of Everton

Hmmm... Kroenke is rebuffed by Usmanov to buy his shares - in public too. Couple of weeks later we have an investigation on TV about Usmanov's business dealings. :dodgy:

"FFS Roman, I've been sussed out!"

Everton/Moshiri/Usmanov will probably get a 30 second mention as an example of "Offshore Secrets of the Rich Exposed".
It's the BBC, their policy is to not mention Everton at all where possible so this will probably be more about Arsenal anyway...

I have to say and it's only my analysis but I feel relieved by this. Maybe it's with all the other chaos going on I am just viewing all news as good.

What we have in this article is the country's biggest broadcaster on a flagship program making the claim Usmanov is funding and involved in Everton. If thats the case it's an enormous positive for us, and we are financially backed by as much money as any club aside from Manchester City.

There has been no guarantee from the start this was the case. Some have speculated on the basis it seems logical. A major broadcaster saying it is a massive and qualitative shift.

The narrow accusations will be easy enough to bat off. Companies give share options all the time, and he has used his share options to sell at an opportune moment. It looks very shifty but it will be very hard to prove anything on that basis, otherwise companies across the UK will have to watch themselves.

In the broad picture I would echo what I said this morning, and what others have said, that this looks like someone from Kroenke's camp putting pressure on.

In a bizarre way I think this is good news. We have a backers 3-4 times the size of Ambramovic backing us, with flimsy evidence that will never stand up to link him, having already been cleared twice by the regulators.

Panorama standards slipping here. This adds nothing to what is already public knowledge as far as I can see.

In truth Panorama’s standards started slipping decades ago.

It is no longer the cutting edge, influential and authoritative expose of miscreancey it was in 60s and 70s heyday.

Exactly this. Plenty of companies give shares to employees. If an employee sells these and buys a car then does the company own the car? No.

In the same vein, if i worked for Jaguar and Jaguar gifted me shares in the company and i cashed those shares in and bought a Jaguar, would i be the subject of a BBC investigation for dodgy dealing?

That's not illegal tho.......... is it?

Nah.

Let's say for arguments sake that the money in 2007 was indeed legally a gift to Moshiri, which is in itself massively debatable, then it still Moshiri's asset to do what he likes with. If Usmanov had winged funds around to evade tax or something then rebought to offset his tax bill, then sure it could be investigated. But it was nearly a decade later that Moshiri sold up and he did so to pursue a clear other interest - the shares in Arsenal at that point where indisputably his property.

As the last sentence says, the Premier League know full well his purchase was legit - this reeks of Panorama starting an investigation, finding nothing but wanting to use the work they've done to make a program so it doesn't go to waste. They'll target Usmanov and front load on the 'evil billionaire foreigner' angle without providing proofs of anything; just insinuation.

For what it's worth, I still have no doubts at all that Usmanov will be here eventually. But it'll be done legally, albeit sneakily.

In that case, this programme, might hurry Usmanov along a bit.
