Paris Olympics 2024

The panel on RTE are 100% correct, there needs to be more money spent on sports and then athletes wouldnt need a day job, get coaches into primary schools in the way GAA do, get more tracks opened, spending money now saves money in the future on the HSE when you have fitter people growing up.
Also RTEs coverage of the games has been fantastic.
I've seen a bit on RTE but watched Eurosport mostly for dedicated Athetics coverage.

Athletics in Ireland is in a really good position at the moment, my daughter does middle distance at national level and there's some really good talent out there.

It could do with more investment though, and universities and colleges here should do more also with scholarships etc. Again though the government need to put their hands in their pockets.

I hate to be the one to let you know, but there's a huge pool of gb athletes either just retired or in the process of retiring. There's going to be a queue three times round bbc hq to get on the couch for some of that sweet waffling on cash.
And you can bet, KJT will be in the mix, one heptathlete takes a side step, another turns up.
She did look a bit sheepish when asked about her future in interview today.

Imagine having to put up with another one and a bitter Kopite to boot.

I'll do as I did this time round, the mute button got more work than the combined earths athletes at the events.
To call the coverage atrocious is to be kind to all atrocity in history previous. An abomination. Have said previous, only near matched by how poor the sound quality has been throughout.

Excuse me Macron, we aint all into mime mate!

You must be doing something right:

Ireland population 5.1 million won 4 gold medals

GB population 67 million won 14 gold medals

Ireland in proportional terms had a way better games than GB....and the GB athletes have been doped up to the gunnels with Lottery funding cash and probably have about 10x the cash spent on their athletes than the Irish do.

I think the French did us a favour by putting the not-so-Fab Four right next to the noisiest section of the Stade de France. It's just a pity it was under cover and it didn't piss down on them.

Will the Casement Park stadium have a track?

It'd be nice to see the British taxpayer funding the next generation of track and field athletes who then turn out for the RoI.

All the juvenile athletes on the island of Ireland race against each other mate. The 4 provinces and Dublin all compete together regardless of religion etc. And they all get on together at nationals no trouble at all. Wouldn't it be great if the adults were the same.

Mind you I'm from Speke and hate everybody and everything so I can't talk.
