550W should be plenty for running the new gfx card. 5ms is fine for games.

Let me ask, is the 5ms black to white time, or grey to grey?

The thing about response times is there is no actual standard. So a 5ms response on one brand tv will be different than 5ms on another. Actually, it is alot like tire treadwear ratings.......no industry wide standard.

5ms, even black to white, is more than adequate for gaming. the 2ms response times, the 30,000:1 contrast ratios are all there for shout loudly at consumers. Better numbers MUST mean better hardware. Sadly, that isn't the case, they are just the easiest numbers for a layman to understand and quantify. Going on about the actual type of LCD screen isn't gonna mean jack to the regular guy purchasing, so they go for the numbers.

As for this whole situation, go with what Brownie says and just get a new GFX card. These days it is the gfx card (and to a certain extent hard drive speeds) that is the bottleneck in games, not the cpu's or memory. Either a newer GeForce or Radeon will do you well.

A 550watt psu should be just fine. There are some programs on the web that you can put all of your hardware info into and it will calculate the power you will use.

Even if you had to change psu, it is actually really, really easy to do (unscrew it, slide old out, then new in and fix it in place)

One thing to consider is if your psu is a no name brand you may be putting your high end bits at risk. Cheap PSU's don't condition the power very well and could spike and kill stuff. A good, reliabel psu can be well worth the money you have to spend to safeguard your gear. Plus as they are more efficient you can get away with a lower wattage rating.

It will be a bit tight I think, depends how good your psu is like Dylan says. If it's a good 550w then it should be ok, if it's an arse one then might not work. Pretty sure that gfx card is gonna need its own power supply as well, better check if your psu has got the right connectors and [Poor language removed]. Google it.

MG...the GTX 275 also needs 2 6-pin PCI-E power plugs from you power supply, just so you know. Considering the age of your PC you might have one but I seriously doubt 2. You can buy adapters if you only have one but I don't recommend it with the older PSU's. If you're looking for a new PSU, I can safely suggest Corsair or PC Power&Cooling...and Antec, depending on the model.

Yup...the price point you're buying a GFX at is right around where the need for 2 connectors comes into play, unfortunately. Like I said, they make adapters for this so you can convert the old molex type power connectors into waht you need but the reason I don't recommend it is the (generally) poor +12V rails inside those older PSU's...which is the rail that will be driving your new GFX card.

You said you have around 150 quid to spend, right?
