I used to write to a Russian girl, who lived in Perm, for a couple of years.

Presumably her letters were vetted as she was corresponding with a westerner, as this was in the days of the Cold War, albeit the perestroika years.

They clearly found nothing exciting in any of them. It was all very innocent, naive stuff.

When I went to Russia as a student years later, it would have been nice if I could have tracked her down. It was my fault the letters tailed off, in fact she used to send gifts too, I just got too lazy to reciprocate.

At school I wrote to a French boy called Joel and a German girl called Rita. No idea what became of them. The letters fizzled out.

In later years I corresponded with a bloke on Death Row at San Quentin. Long story but it came after I watched a program about called 14 Days In May about a young man who was executed on some very dodgy evidence. And before you ask no, I'm not one of these weirdos who is sexually attracted to prisoners and who wants to marry them. I did it through a charitable organisation and I figure that everybody needs a friend. Once again the embedded Catholic upbringing surfaced and the story about the sheep and the goats - which actually is how I try to live my life.

I am loving you pic of that ferrets can you send me pics of them xx

Had a French one and a German one as part of school exchange programmes when I was doing both subjects at GCSE and A Level. Both good lads and got on well with them, but once the exchanges were over, the letter writing side dried up sharpish (as you might expect would be the case when leaving 18 year old boys to write letters to each other)...!

Hi angel likaferrett, there's a few lads on here who could do with your embedded catholic upbringing and desire to help petty criminals through their porridge... pm if you want their names.

Unfortunately I discovered that I'm a rubbish letter poster. Carried them round in my handbag for about three months before I ever went to the post office.
