Is adoration of match going fans the forum’s version of the right wing worshipping the military?

Food for thought I feel.
Well the military are basically pawns in the chess games of powerful short men across the globe, whereas the Park End Dars are no-one's pawns they're just getting out from under the missus feet for a couple hours. But yes, I do admire those who stand in the freezing cold watching Mykolenko and Branthwaite pass back and fore for 90 minutes then go back again the following week.

real fans don’t even watch the games at all

because they know that as soon as they tune in, Everton will start losing

real fans check the results so they don’t jinx it

Without the armchair fans, there would be no humungous TV deals that used to allow clubs to sign players, before P&S.

I don't know if that's a good thing or not, I don't think silly money has been good for the game.

…..I don’t think it makes a big difference whether you go to the match or not, people are different with different opinions.

It probably makes a difference if you’re raised in a football hotbed like the city of Liverpool.

Would you say local fans, scousers, get the game of football on a deeper level pal?

….yep, its a complicated mix of being ridiculously passionate about the game from a very young age, the influence of your family and the intensity of rivalry with the other side of the park. It just means so much, perhaps it means too much.

You see I get that they may get the club more but the game of football I’m not sure if I agree or if that’s my scouse exceptionalism thing influencing me.

I think it's quite similar most places you go, football gets mostly sane people into a strange passion for something they can't change

I grew up near Brighton and when I was a kid it was an overly passionate bunch of Brighton (when they were in the old first division and got to the FA Cup Final), Man Utd and RS fans

Obviously I took the right (?) path...

….i would never say scouse Evertonians know more about the game, I just think their intense connection to the club might partly explain different views.

I think lots of posts last night were out of pure frustration. When things aren’t going well some posters suggest the players don’t care and lack backbone but I wouldn’t fault the application and attitude of this bunch.

I'd argue that going the game you probably get more frustrated about not being 'entertained' than you would from watching at home!

When the game is terrible you can think of things such as the cost (around £30 per ticket for season ticket, £50 for a one off game, travel, parking, refreshments if required etc) it can add up to about £60-£100 per game......more if you are taking a youngster with you etc! There is also the time it takes out of you life schedule..................whether its booking time off work, missing out of other activities, gym, football etc or just liking to chill on the couch at home or put your kids to bed!!
You are sacrificing all that to go and watch some turgid football!!

Watching from further afield in terms of TV (not in terms of our American fans who get up at silly o'clock to watch us etc) you are more accepting of the way 'have to; play! Your not stuck in a car park at half 10 at night waiting to get past all the traffic to get home! You are at at home or in the pub or at the gym straight after! You haven't lost anything by not going! If you have gone and it hasn't gone well..........there is a feel of regret!
I get this.

I get frustrated and mad enough at the time I waste just looking up the result on an app these days. Got better stuff to do ffs!

Agreed. I moved to the North East when I was 7 and the Newcastle/Sunderland passion was clear for all to see. And like all football fans, they all think they know best.
