Howard did a good job first time round after a couple of poor season but giving him credit for coming the third time is stretching it, if I’m not mistaken he was given a three year contract, we escaped relegation by the skin of our teeth, Howard said he thought he had done a good job in that year! He never got another chance to carry on, so if I’m correct he got three years pay for nearly getting us relegated.Yeah Bobby Robson would have been fantastic. HK was a poor choice but credit to him for coming to us, as seemingly nobody else would touch us in that summer of 97.
Also remember all the players we were linked with that summer. Ince, Ravenelli etc only to end up with Gareth Farrelly and Danny Williamson
