I’d stop watching if heading was taken away. Completely different game.
I know a few old folk with dementia now and they’ve never headed anything consistently in their life. (2 of them are a couple who have both got it at the same time).
Long term health effects come into most professions nowadays.
-Tiler’s have knee problems
-Builders get arthritis
-Deep sea divers lose lung capacity.
-Footballers/boxers can have brain issues (eg. Dementia).
on the flip side
-Tiler’s get dementia sometimes
-Footballers/boxers get arthritis.
-Etc
So should Tiler’s no longer kneel down, or builders only work when it’s warm and not lift heavy objects, or deep sea divers only work in shallow water?
The profession you have been doing for 40 years can obviously accelerate any health issue. Top footballers however are paid very very handsomely and are now aware of the risks. They can choose to minimise that risk of dementia and become an IT project manager if they wish instead, and minimise the risk of dementia. It’s an individuals choice, and something maybe lower tier footballers should consider.
I’d choose football as I’m probably likely to get some health issue in my later years anyway as a side effect of my working life.
long response to vote ‘keep heading’.
