It's a reward for his leadership during a difficult season with clearly many off field disturbances, good management showing others loyalty will be acknowledged.

It may also raise a question about the age of the new incoming centreback. I'd expected someone in the 28-30 bracket but keeping Jags around longer may mean we go for a younger less experienced player.

Obviously someone has been sniffing and we've reacted by giving him an improved contract, there's no other logical reason why we'd extend his deal at this point.

He has been a brilliant signing for us, one of Moyes' best. All from a moody starting point in midfield against Blackburn I think on the opening day.

He started to really find his feet in central defence before Christmas 2007 and has just gone on from there, he's one of the most consistent defenders I've seen.

He started last year moody and apparently he was finished but bounced back to have a very decent season. Towards the end of it he has some excellent games.

Same with most things you get too used to stuff and take it for granted. In two years time he qualifies for a testimonial, there won't be many Everton players in times coming up that achieve a first team starting place for ten years.

His pace is still there for now but he's reading of the game will see he gets a few more years, and his understanding with Stones will help him develop and hopefully stick around for a bit.

He made it as Everton captain too. Just need he trophy above his head to seal a good Everton career.

i'm a fan, for years he's been consistent & reliable. Just wish he was a bit more extroverted and vocal when chips are down.

He knows what it means to be Captain of Everton as well, and he gets the fans. He's a top bloke and a brilliant centre back.
Turned down Arsenal to stay here. The Jagielka - Lescott partnership was the best ive ever seen at Everton (Im only 22), the season he got his ACL injury he was the best CB in the Country hands down, i truly believe that.

He boss, he'll help the younger lads be boss, boss.
