Smalling has significantly improved over the last six months and tbf can understand why Hodgson would prefer to try to establish a younger partnership that could last several years.

Stones in the right and Smalling on the left is probably his long term preference.

Very happy we have a Stones and Jags partnership though.

Agree Smalling has improved, still think Stones is just the better of the 2. Smalling and Stones as England's future centre - half pairing is going to be quite impressive though.

And we respect you for that.
I just can't agree with the passive comment when a 20 year old CB and a south American with zero experience of European football have slotted seamlessly in next to him. Surely him coaxing them through is the opposite of passive?
It's all going well at the moment so it looks like a poor call to say he's falling down on that aspect of his game. I'm looking at it in the long term since he's been here. I just don't see an organiser and an inspirational figure. Maybe captaining his country will give him a boost in that direction.

Smalling has been playing well and United have been playing well. He's always going to be a first choice CB.

Cahill is another issue altogether. He's been woeful and Chelsea have been woeful. The London bias is painfully obvious; Stones and Jags have both been streets ahead of Cahill throughout the year.

Chuffed for the lad and well deserved. What a player. Must be an amazing feeling knowing you will be captaining your country tomorrow!
