Played left back for England and gave away that pen versus Romania , not his fault , you don't play right footers at left back , just sayin'

Limited player. A good professional who served this club well
But that really is the min we should expect. We have got very used to poor players now that dont serve the club well.

This is the post of the thread for me; sentiments that I echo 100% every day of the week.
Bang average footballer with zero personality on and off the pitch.
Totally disagree, he was an appalling technical player at the start of his career but he made up for it with his attitude towards training, preparation, tactics and focus. He followed the managers tactics to the letter and ensured his fellow players did so too. The current group have no one that can do any of those qualities although most have better technical or physical qualities.

wot.webp

So?

He was here for 8 years and the highlight of that is a tackle on CR7? Brilliant.

He was an utter fraud of a captain who pointed a lot and was always the "Nicest guy possible", instead of having 1% of snide.

Amazingly, he recently came out and admitted that they were drilled at United when to talk to the ref and how to influence decisions. Glad he instantly forgot this as soon as he stepped foot at Goodison.

Towards the end of his career it was annoying as the just-about-average player that he was was obviously fading and he couldn't really do much. Similarly to Coleman though, apparently had to play.

Moyes didn't want Everton players surrounding the Ref, Ferguson did. Neville brought more than his football ability. I don't think too highly of him but a blind man on a galloping horse can see our current crop lack leadership.

They do, absolutely.

Why didn't Moyes want Everton players surrounding the ref then? That entire squad lived and thrived on snide moments, like his own tackle against CR7. Yet, as a captain and a team we were always the "know your place" and "knife to a gun fight" "good guy" Everton.

Why?

Moyes has said it loads they didn't chase ref only the captain approached the ref. They played hard but fair.

Can't remember him not giving his all whenever he played for us. Unfair comparisons against some of our greats. Some will never forgive him for being a Manc. There's a lot more deserving cases for ridicule and bile - a good many currently wearing the shirt.

It’s so moribund and dreadful at the moment that people are harking back to the days of Phil Neville (playing/pointing). Will this season ever take its foot off my love spuds?
