Transfer Rumour Philippe Coutinho

Loads of players fail at Real/Barcelona. We have James by almost the exact same track, complete with loan to Bayern.

He'd be a good player now at 28. In theory anyway, we'd definitely Everton That him in practice.
At 28 your body is not able to repair itself as a 21 or 22 year old. He has missed the vast majority of this season though injury - not through lack if form/ability.

Spending 40m on a 28 year old with no sell on value doesnt strike me as a Brands signing so it would be a Carlo signing. Does he have a relationship similar to James, cant remember if their paths crossed at Bayern?

He also doesn't have the same marketing cache as James did so it just doesnt strike me as a likely move.

Being an ex RS doesnt bother me really.

Don't think we'd spend anywhere near that.

Like him as a player, but is he what we really need?

We need a player in midfield who can score goals (which he does), but also commands a game, which isn't what type of player he is.

I've no issue if we did sign him, but just feel our money could be spent elsewhere.

Not for me. Not what we need.

I was never overly impressed when he was at the RS. People I spoke to who were RS fans said he was inconsistent and would go missing for weeks or months then score the odd worldy or do something special that got him attention, but nowhere near often enough and he was very much a passenger. It baffled me how they got so much for him, but I think it was largely to try and appease Messi/Neymar/Suarez than any tactical reason.

Its not even like he has the type of profile/upside that you get from James, and no history or relationship with Carlo or any of our players to my knowledge, other than perhaps Richarlison fleetingly while on Intermational duty.

At the cost we'd pay, his age, the wages he would demand, the injuries, his profile, the lack of connections, the history of who he played for, the type of player he is and what we need, I would say this is 1 we should definitely avoid.

This has Sigurdsson mark 2 rather than James mark 2 written all over it.

I am not sure how we are planning to pay his wages...even at bayern he had to take a 50% pay cut in order to finish the season there...

Regarding consistency:

according to Transfermarkt in 201 games for the RS he got 54 goals and 45 assists.

A 1 in 2 goal/assist rate is pretty good for an attacking midfielder.

However, I think this rumour is a non-starter. It was either last season or the season before (when Everton/Countinho rumours first circulated) that he said he’d never play for us out of respect for the RS.

good player though. I‘d take him in a similar way we got James, but I think Barce want a lot of money for him.

We dont want coutinho, and Carlo Ancelotti OUT.

We are Ev. Not skne smelly club like Barca or bayern

{sung to the tune of Sugar Sugar by The Archies}
We got Mo Salah
and Mane, Mane
We got Bobby Firmino
...but we lost Coutinho

...and after singing it, find a skip... and jump headfirst into it.

we endured Fabian Delph kicking it out of play because he was trying to play no look passes against Arsenal. The idea that we think he's not good enough or we're above signing someone like Coutinho is laughable.
That said, whilst he's clearly a quality player he doesn't solve any of our problems and that's got to be the priority this summer. We need pace and power

Anyone that doesn’t take him is crazy. He was world class for Liverpool.

Im guessing he’s Bernards replacement.
