PEH is much more of a number 6 than Gana.
who definitely wasn’t a player that just sat infront of the back 4.

Admittedly i haven't seen much of him bar five or six games, struck me as more of an 8. Ill happily defer if other people have watched him more. Id also clarify i didn't say 6's were just players who sat in front of the back four, always think that is a bit of a lazy typecast.

The thing about Walcott's return is he isn't currently playing that position. I agree him being there for 38 games isn't good enough and that's why I do think another RW makes it a much more palatable option, but for certain games and off the bench I can see Walcott having use there.

As for the midfield I'd say having 6 is ideal if we are looking to play 3 of them at a time. Two options on the bench (and 3 if we're doing 5 subs again) is good too and with Gbamin most likely not fit right away you'll need the depth from the start anyway. I expect Delph and Davies will have roles to play.

If we do go back to having a #10 again it can't be Sigurdsson. He plays as a #10 in name only as his contribution in possession and in open play chance creation is far far from good enough. The goals are nice but it essentially means he's playing as a striker when all you're getting is goals. Gordon and Iwobi would be the options for me but I don't really think Gordon should move off the wing myself. To me that is why 4-3-3 makes further sense because it is only really Sigurdsson who we should bin and Iwobi that I can't naturally fit in.

Ideally mate, they are expensive supplements for lads who may have a role to play coming of the bench. I mean Walcott and Delph alone are on 120 k a week each. I suppose we need to be conscious of taking on cost. But from a purely footballing point of view i get where you are coming from.

Id be a Gylfi fan boy, for me if it came down to Iwobi and Gylfi it would be Iwobi making way, im not saying Gylfis move has been massively successful but i think people are down on him and i see context in mitigation and value in him still. That said i really liked the look of Gordon centrally, not so much the last day but when he came inside from the flank, i think he will mature to move inside centrally, but perhaps you are right and will develop at this stage on the flank.

For me the overhang would be Iwobi, Bernard and Bolaise - pretty much what we are seeing now. I suspect Gylfi might be the one to leave though as i think hes the one there will be market for and has the pedigree while hes in the last couple of years of his deal.

My problem with Gylfi is even when he was playing well, scoring goals, good set plays, he was always struggling with making an impact with the ball in open play. Essentially he was always playing as a striker which became more and more of a problem because Richarlison began to do that all the time too. That's why to me Gylfi can't come back in because he steps on what Richarlison and the actual striker are doing. Iwobi, whether he's giving us enough or not, isn't doing that.

As for the wages of Delph and Walcott, I agree they're unseemly, but we are going to need depth so at the moment I think you have to keep them around.

I think Gana could have been but we used him in sort of a search and destroy role and PSG have continued with that. However Senegal have him sit in internationally and he is quite good at it. It disappoints me that we never tried.
I always see a number 6 as much better technically than Gana. He wasn’t great on the ball, would have been a liability just sitting in front of the back 4 imo

"This season, (Hojbjerg) ranks inside the top 10% for Premier League midfielders who have played over 800 league minutes in terms of both interceptions won per 90 minutes and successful defensive actions completed per 90 minutes."

Sign him up

Gana was always more than adequate on the ball. No he isn't Modric or something but considering the tackling he didn't need to be.

Retrospectively I'd have loved to see Gueye sitting deep behind Davies and Barkley the year that Tom broke through. I think those box to box roles would have suited them much better than trying to make Ross a #10 where he was often uncomfortable and Davies eventually a deep player where he doesn't have the defensive ability.

I actually hope the Hojbjerg getting signed and Gbamin would finally allow us to have someone play that role. I'm tired of two DMs.

So my take on it:
Underrated player. Good energy, determination etc. Poor passer from what I've seen. We desperately need some pace in the team; he seems very slow.

This being Everton means that either: a) we sign him, and he forgets how to play the game at all and then ends up on loan at a Turkish club for 3 years until his lucrative contract finally comes to an end.

Or B) our fans will spend loads of time saying they don't want him, he's not good enough and then lose their s@#* when he signs for someone else, saying the club lack ambition etc.

Can only go one of two ways really

“He’s crap, not nearly good enough for us, Southampton are rubbish and he’s never taking us to the next level”

*Spurs show interest

“joke of a club why don’t we just offer the money they want, we always get gazzumped for players by bigger clubs we’re going to have Gylfi and Davies forever”

I absolutely love it.

He’s nowhere near good enough. I’ve no idea where the idea came from that he’s some sort of baller, he isn’t.

I guarantee he’ll be a boo boys favourite within literally weeks.

Another awful piece of business if it happens.

Who's calling him a baller?
Seems the vast majority have barely seen him play if at all.

He's a decent player and for less than £20m I think it would be a good deal. He prefers a move to Spurs though so I hope we don't waste ages, if he doesn't give us a yes quickly then move on and don't go back. The last thing we need is for the club to be once again fixated on one player instead having a list.

Those days are over mate, look at what happened with Tierney.

Do you want to sign for Everton - no, I want to play for Arsenal.

No probs, we’ll sign the much better and cheaper Digne.
