Players you would like to see us go for

Now that the season is over here are the players I'd think we could realistically and would like to have, some players I like (Bullard, McBride, Dempsey) aren't getting sold and some players (Jauquin, and any family member with the last name Riquelme -- sorry Bruce) are never coming here.

Carsley: Unfortately I think he's going even if we bring in a Holding Mid that player is going to need at least 3 months to get used to being here, I just think a good Championship (Sheff Utd, Palace) or relegation fodder (Stoke, Bolton), will offer him a multi year contract when we'll do just one year.

Granted Big 4 teams (and Villa) run right by him, he always does the business against the lesser teams, our record against the teams below us are the reason why we finished higher than Villa.

Manny: on loan or for 6-7M. Valencia is supposedly a mess so maybe, just maybe we can get him on the cheap.

Michael Bradley: Holding Mid 5-6M He'll be a little expensive becasue I don't think Heeveereen needs to sell him.

Antionio Valencia:6-8M RW just getting better and better, nice crosser good speed. Utd is interested -- maybe if they grab him Park/Fletcher/Scholes (Neville's best buddy) is available??

Steven Hunt: LW, LCM - Keane has a man-crush on him so if he goes anywhere I think Sunderland will grab him. I really think we need a player like him, we aren't very physical. Plus he's an excellent player, works his ass off and is an underrated crosser and goal scorer. He would provide a presence that we've missed since Duncan retired. At times he's batshit crazy (but not in a Diouf way; I don't think he's ever been red carded) and scares the crap out of some teams/players. He also gets under the skin of the "Big 4". One of my favorite non-Everton players in the prem. Our wee-tiny midfield needs a player like him.

Kallstrom or Asahavin: never seen either one play but at least sound good.

A cheapo disaster striker/sub so we don't have to play Jags up front when everyone gets hurt (McBride would have been great in this role)

A couple squad players like Pedro Mendes, and Stelios to fill group stage minutes/sub in case of injuries.

That would be like 20-25M which I think we can afford with the TV money.

If we get the midfield straightened out I think we'll be OK with Neville/Hibbert/maybe Jags? at RB. Nevillbert struggled at times but they did improve over the course of 08 and even though it won't be our strongest position we aren't Chelsea and can't buy European internationals to fill our reserve squad.

OK here goes...

players we have been rumoured with so far:

Arshavin
Owen

Kallstrom
Bradley
Joaquin
Fernandes
Appiah
Brian Howard
M'Bia
Dudu
Joe Ledley

I wouldnt mind if we signed any of them, they are all good...but hte players in bold are teh ones that id sign (realistically). Id also like to see players like Sebastian Larsson, Milner and other players like that rumoured with us, because i think they'd be great.

Also if theres going to be a raid on Valencia - Albiol anyone?

Keep Manny, he's only 21.

How about Makaay? Experience into the bench. And may not be expensive.

Elano from City?

Get Manny in almost at any cost. He should become our best midfielder for many years.

I also like the look of Lorik Cana of Marseilles with whom we where linked to earlier in the season. He's only 24 and already captain of the club. Plays defensive midfield and seems to have the same drive as Cahill, the determination of a young Keane. He would terrify the [Poor language removed] out of the opposition.

Imagine this: Steven Gerrard reduced to near nothing because Cana has completely taken him out of the game, tough tackling and never giving him a moments rest.

He would probarbly not be cheap around £8 m.

Also Arshavin seems to have the ability to easily get past players, provide countless assists and be a goalscoring threat as well. He would be a great purchase and provide us with a real quality player.

Imagine this midfield:

Arshavin - Fernandes - Cahill - Cana - Arteta

all great ball players with excellent subs in Osman and Piennar. They should provide Yakubu with enough service to make him score 30+ goals. Add 10 from Arshavin, Cahill, Lescott and our second striker hopefully a fully fit Vaughan. Another 5-10 from Fernandes, Arteta and Jagielka and the goals tally should be great.

Hello Everyone. I'm new here, but I think I'm going to express the same opinions of most people on here. Namely...

- Keep Fernandes by a season long loan / £7-8m signing
- Try and get hold of Bradley for £5m. He looks really exciting as a more dynamic 'up and down' player to fill Carlsley's role. If not this Cana fella sounds like a good alternative.
- At least make a polite enquiry about Kallstrom. I'd be amazed if he was an Everton player come August, though.

The main target for me has to be Arshavin. Again, perhaps a little unlikely but I really think he has everything that we are looking for. Real pace from the left of midfield, or alternatively that 'number 10' role behind the Yak as an alternative to Cahill when required.

I'll be watching him very closly in the Uefa Cup final tonight. I'll also keep an eye on a couple of Rangers players, provided they make it onto the pitch. Kevin Thomson looks like a handy player who wouldn't cost the earth. The other is Kris Boyd, who bizarrely can't seem to be able to get a game at the moment, despite his incredible goalscoring record and the fact he's one of the best finishers I've seen. No idea how much he's worth though.

  • Paul Scharner - Surprised? Again, everytime I've seen him he's done very well. He was fantastic against Villa the other day, especially considering he was next to Bramble.

Another Wigan player linked with a move away is Austrian centre-half Paul Scharner.

Everton boss David Moyes tried to land Scharner last summer, and could renew his interest after steering the Toffees into the UEFA Cup again.

Boyd is a very good shout. Young and he scores for fun, albeit in the Scottish League. At the right price he could be worth a punt.

He's being a bit disrespectful to Wigan at the moment, though. Shows a distinct lack of class and tact to say that you're too good for the team you play for.

Where/when did he say that Neb?

If he did, not the kind of player we want here.

Not sure where he said it but presume it is true since he's quoted on Blue Kipper (why would they lie?). Essentially he says Wigan is a footballing no-man's land and that he is too good to be with a relegation team (quote below).

I am good enough to take on bigger responsibilities, like the Champions League or the UEFA Cup. I am under contract with Wigan until 2009 but who knows what might happen during the summer.”

Ah right yeah, he said that this time last year according to the Echo

Bad attitude, sod him.

It's quite an old quote, then. I just wonder why players sometimes show so little respect for the fans of the clubs they play for. it's easy to say you want a new challenge without saying anything negative about your current team.

E.g.: I believe that at this time in my career it would be the right move for me to be at a club which is playing in Europe. It's not a an easy decision because I've felt at home at Wigan and have appreciated the welcome given to me by the fans. I feel, however, that I need to test myself at the highest possible level. I need to prove to myself that I have what it takes.

Easy, and no-one gets pissed off with you.
