Playing Premier League games overseas

That won't matter. I wouldn't imagine Uefa/Fifa are as concerned with money as the clubs are. Concerned sure, but not that concerned. Besides, Sky/Fox aren't the only TV companies out there with money burning holes in their pockets!

They will need agreement of the national associations, agreement of stadia owners, FIFA will ban the FA from all games, money is not everything thank God

It looks by reading these pages there is a 100% agreement that this is a terrible idea.

Not playing devils advocate for any sake at all, I think this is an excellent topic but lean by way of reasoning.

I can see only one reason why people are in business and its to make money.

Thats getting off point anyway... I dont know all the facts, but why is this such a bad idea? Okay, timing...over exposure...travel...money...anything else?

I apologise to anyone throwing a fit in disbelief at my position in advance. Is it a money thing? Thats all I seem to be reading. Some evil money grabbing phantom has hatched another scheme to rip off the good people of England again and no matter how loud the cries of "He's behind you!!" wont stop him again? But is that what its about?

So you want the worlds best players, roll around in agony when they want to play for their country and curl up into a ball of euro-uber rage when the World wants you to come out and play.

At least it might not be raining at kick off eh?

Thats mean and I take it back, but secretly its what I really want to say! Youve created a beautiful game thats bigger than the isles of their creation and once before its gotten away from you.

Before long the Premiership will be the World League and once again the English game will become the World Game.

Look, I hold no official position on this other than the fact that any game played outside the Premier League no matter who is playing will attract a MASSIVE crowd.

Maybe it shouldnt be a league game (which has been done in loads of other sports all over the world and they didnt complain) just pre season tourneys.

But the best players never play in pre season tourneys, and its a lot softer game.

Derby or whoever crap V Middlesborough might just might have found a way to actually promote the league, rather than financially absorb it.

Responses on why this is an awful idea? Im gunna read this topic again.

Im having a crack

So, English Premierleague sides are going to play abroad.

lets say Dubai - United Arab Emirates FA
lets say Beijing - Chinese FA
lets say New York - U.S FA
lets say Sydney - Australian FA
lets say Seoul - South Korean FA

Who is going to referee these games and ensure impartiality across all fixtures? Or are these footballing associations going to give up their footballing right to control of games on their sovereign ground?

Normal Refs Id say. English games, english refs.

What will this do to football in the respective countries? suddenly planet premiership lands and every other game and player is secondary.

I think thats really not an issue. Every other league is secondary and they all know it. Everyone watches the Premier League. A game in LA isnt going to ruffle the Beckham buzz.

How long before European big guns like real madrid, barcelona, bayern munich, the milans, and benfica want a slice of the action?

Well isnt that up to them? And the FA will want to get in there before the market is saturated.

how long before sides like derby get the elbow for the galacticos?

Im sure theres enough World wide suppport for more than one team.

How will television revenues be split? How will they be sold? (in the current setup sky get four fifths of the live rights and first pick of the glitterati games)

Dunno but as long as Everton get a couple of superstars or a better stadium, let the bean counters worry.

Sponsorship, will shirt sponsors and manufacturers for the british market have the same deal abroad under the rules and regulations of the respective countries? could we see single game sponsorship introduced for these once seasonly spectacles.

I dont think that equates. Whoever manufactures the shirts sells them worldwide anyway. Im sure you would be able to buy a limited edition replica at the ground. I just saw a real Everton shirt in Rebel sport for the first time in years. Im buying it tommorow Im that exited.

How will altitudes and weather conditions be dealt with in terms of scheduling, tropical storms, tornados/typhoons, travel and match possibility become questionable, so at what point in the season can these games be played or will some sides be asked to travel great distances at problematic times whilst certain other sides travel short distances at convenient times.

We arent travelling by balloon anymore Suits! But a valid point about advantages. Not sure about that.

European commitments could see so called star players not travel (anyone remember denis bergkamp?) and what will that do to the prestige of the fixtures that have been so built up and glamourised? especially if manure or chelsea send a 'B' team to beijing to give middlesbrough a hammering.

I think thats why they are trying to get real games OS. So every game is important.

Not sure about this seeding malarky.

We should wait till they level the plan.

One you didn't address, McBain:

The English League has always been based on playing once home and once away. Even without seeding, the addition of one additional game introduces an element of chance into what is a season of skill and work.

Fulham and Crystal Palace are battling it out at the bottom. As their extra game Fulham have to play Man U. Crystal Palace have to play Watford. Any unfairness there?

Add into that seeding, where supposed top clubs are given a lifetime guarantee that they do not have to play one another in the extra game, and you increase the advantage that they already hold.

As far as writing to the clubs goes, I would think that would be a waste of time. They are all already in favour of it and, if you don't like it as a Blue, there are millions of supporters in Asia who would.

The players are in favour of it because it increases their exposure and potential earning power. The only people who stand a chance of stopping this are the national FAs.

I would imagine the foreign ones would be set against one another and, according to today's papers, the English FA bigwigs see this as a great way of getting what they want with the national team and match scheduling. Perhaps the only way to get it stopped, if that is what fans in England want, is for people to write to their local FA councillor and get some pressure from the county associations.

Macca, if you see what I have said I remain resolutely opposed to this pie in the sky scheme, playing 39 league games in a season can only be described as stupid.

There are a hundred ways of increasing exposure overseas, a major preseason tournament for the top 16 prem sides, same idea but run it instead of the C/C cup for the bigger clubs and yes, play those matches across the globe if needs be as long as the respective national associations agree. That said it seems that FIFA are going to kill it any way.

What we have been presented with is a purely arrogant proposal, ill thought out by people who have scant regard for the sanctity of our league. I would welcome most things that would allow you guys round the world to see the blues for real but this certainly isn't one of them mate(y)

Ok, playing 39 games is a silly idea.

Playing a Premier League Match O/S isnt such a bad idea, but the way they want to do it sounds ridiculous.

Ok I slept on it and I concur.

Too much is at stake in the league to mess around with the format.

A better way of achieving their objectives of promoting the game (yeah right!) and making more money, would be to stage the exact same games, a few months earlier than the proposed time, around the world, but instead of them counting as a 39th PL game, have them act as seeding games for the FA Cup 3rd round draw. The 10 winners (by shootout if necessary) are guaranteed not to be drawn against other PL clubs in the 3rd round, while the 10 losers are all drawn against each other.
