I grew up a Colts fan, and I watched the team's owner (whose name is not spoken in my parents' presence) pack up the team and take them to Indianapolis. I was 11 then, so I had the "disappointment" ticket punched for me, good and early.

The Baltimore Orioles (the baseball team I support) have given us more than a bit of grief lately, too.

So are you a Ravens guy, or did you just dump the NFL after that?

And you've had some good times with the O's over the years, your manager's view on when to use the closer notwithstanding.

I stuck with the Colts. It wasn't the players' fault they moved. Most of my family are still near Baltimore, and the ones who are too young to remember 1984 are Ravens fans. My parents, etc. can't make themselves root for the Ravens.

I was 10 when the O's won the World Series, which might be close to the perfect age to have something like that happen. We've had a few other decent runs, and a few maddening dry spells, too.

I wish I'd gotten one of those Billy Ripken cards back in the day. You could sell one for a few hundred bucks at one time.

You must have been a kid with questionable morals. You'll like GOT.

Thanks, verreauxi. I'm in the Hampton Roads area. I know your part of the state pretty well. I had some good friends at JMU.

Cool. I love it out here, but I'm originally a Chicagoan who moved here to VA before spending about 15 years in the Northeast (Boston, New Haven, Cape Cod), but I'm really digging the Shenandoah valley.

This is a fun forum, and folks are both generous and decent and also generally hilarious. And of course it's the internet, so don't take anything too seriously.
