Yes. Lampard was clearly pining for Dwight McNeil, explains why he spends so much time on the bench.

The fact that the club thought they could replace Richarlison on the cheap with minimal scouting effort really isn't his fault.

It doesn't matter who Lampard would buy if he was at Chelsea operating with a blank cheque book, he's at Everton. We needed forwards in the summer, he spent 35 million on forwards, and now everyone's acting like they don't even exist because they're that incapable. Now we need to replace the forwards Lampard bought in the summer, and people are acting like Lampard is the man to find the replacements and get them firing on all cylinders. I don't think he's that man at all.

We have a director of football mate, thanks for reading.

And?

Lampard still has a say on who is bought, the players aren't forced on him against his will, and even if they were, he's proven that he can't get a tune out of them to the point that he needs to replace players that were bought just three months ago.

I think you clearly don’t understand the purpose of a director of football mate. It’s to ensure that we don’t have a squad full of 7 different manager’s players, and we have a consistent strategy implemented throughout the club. Lampard didn’t buy Dwight McNeil, no.

I disagree. The director of football consults with the manager. Players are not just forced upon the manager without consultation. Regardless, Lampard can't get a tune out of the 35 million pounds worth of forwards we bought in the summer, so I'm against trying the same experiment once again. I think getting a better manager would be a much better move.

I’m sure this sounds really good like we’ve got these top players that Lampard can’t get the best out of, but the “£35m worth” in reality is Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay. So yes regardless of who the manager is, we need to replace these players with capable first teamers.

And what's the budget to replace them? You can't be giving the go ahead to sign players and then act like you've been strung up because they're so incompetent that it takes them five games to manage a shot on target. So if they do need replacing, you don't give the person that brought them in the responsibility of replacing them. Give it to someone else that doesn't want to replace their own forwards every three months.

I agree I would sack Thelwell.

And who do you trust to do this? You seem to be arguing that Lampard has no input on player purchases, so it’s Thelwell who signed McNeil & Maupay yes? And you think he’ll improve on them in January? I’ll believe it when I see it.

Unfortunately no I don’t trust Thelwell to replace them effectively. But I’d rather us at least try and take the gamble than persist with two awful footballers that aren’t going to get better.

Nobody knows who is and who isn't responsible, it's a mess, personally I don't think the DOF model has worked for us, we need to do away with it or adapt it.
Personally I think Frank's replacement should have 100% control and say on the squad, we don't need a DOF, we need a fully capable manager.

I’m trying to imagine the conversation. Thelwell suggests McNeil and Frank says, well he’s a bit slow and not very good, but yeah, go on, sign him. Something like that maybe?

This isn’t the early 2000s anymore, near enough every club has a DoF or Sporting Director these days
