As some of the longer term members know, we've had long-running discussions about the merits of political threads on GOT as they tend to result in disagreements and in-fighting amongst Blues.

They, and other similarly 'hot' topics, do tend to be discussed however, so we're going to trial putting them all into the upgraded member lounge, where moderation is more relaxed on account of it being primarily used by members who have shown a willingness to support the site.

Threads that will be put there include topics such as politics, religion, guns and so on. Any existing threads on these topics will be moved over to the upgraded lounge by Sunday evening.

Religious discussion is banned too!

Bless you for that.

Would there need to be a new list of trigger words that would constitute political or religious or contentious topics being discussed?

Such as, labour, liberal, faith, diversity, colour, race, woman, conflict, oil, confrontation, dissent, disagree, no, untruth, lie, think, unbalanced, interpretation, rights, left, change, challenge, national, health, service, civil, cross, crescent, china, border, leader, european, global, union, may, momentum, god, class, privilege, royal....etc etc etc

everything has context, duplicity, interpretation, by having differing opinions, and a forum being a place that depends on the voicing of opinions, you have 'political discourse'. Anything with a societal context is political. Opinion on something like a lifestyle choice, such as veganism, is political by its divisive content, to the very same extent that an opinion on Lukaku's ability and contribution can inflame aggressive argumentative stances. It's why I think this is impractical and to be fair and balanced, unworkable.

To be fair, you have. It has been banned for non-paying members to discuss.
To be fair, if you bothered to read the site's rules, you'll see we've actually been lenient in allowing what we have;

Contributions must not be;

q) Be religious, racial or political. There are other forums on the Internet suited for exactly this type of discussion, and ask that you please conduct such discussions on those forums

Not banned.

Allocated a specific place on the forum.

We have not banned anything.

Also, religious and political discussion is actually against forum rules form day one. We've been lenient in allowing it as it is.
Bruce didnt bother to answer eventhough I tagged him...is he gonna do what he planned - to move political talk threads to upgraded lounge only?

By the way, I'm not questioning the leniency moderators have shown up until this point, which has been lenient to say the least given the rules don't allow it. I am questioning the decision to move it to a subscribed area, and by doing so banning it for non paying members but not for paying members. You must agree that if this is the case, the rules need another look at so people understand that a perk to subscription is the ability to talk politics without being banned.

I think our members have been a lot better for handling political threads over the last couple of years. Political threads used to go off the rails within a few pages not so long ago. Now they can last hundreds without degenerating into racism, nonsense about muslims and personal insults for the most part, which is why I think this is a bit of a shame and a cop-out.

I dunno. Might have a different view if I was a moderator I suppose.
