Poor Striking Toggerists

Player Valuation: £60m
According to the Beeb, FIFA have been warned that soccer players are so overworked and tired and 'don't get the time to spend their millions' (sic)

What say ye? As a union man I wouldn't cross a picket line, but, for the love of all that's holy 😱

I don't know why they get out of bed for the pittance that they get paid. And to get that pittance they have to play 100 hours of football in just one year. It's wrong.

Some might say that they have it easy compared to 10-year old children that had to work every hour God sent back in the day but they forget that they could go home every night and didn't have to drag themselves onto 1st class flights every now and again.

There's thousand of kids having their life dreams shattered every year getting released by football clubs, some don't make it out the other side such is the blow, and you've got some who've become multi millionaires on the back of it whining they're a bit tired.

It's a funny old game innit.

Totally devastated for them, I had no idea. I'm speed dialing Bono and Bob now, my God we'll get this sorted for them. I'm thinking a headlining slot on the 6 o'clock news, gather a few footballers up and put them in a field to show their plight and bring awareness to this impending humanitarian crisis.

After that let's get a charity single out with all the pop stars of today, "Do they know it's 11:30(am) and I'm just going home, at all".

Then a big concert at Wembley called 'Dive Aid', where Bob can swear and plea to the country that "there are footballers right now who can't spend their fecking money, so what's the point in them being millionaires!"

I just hope they can hang on until we fix it.

Isn't this why they have squads and a short, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly overpaid career doing a hobby?

I think back on the championship team of '85 and we used, what, something like 13 different players in a season, including FA cup, two legged league, and 2 legged European runs. That was with heavier balls and heavier pitches, and without personal nutritional coaches. Add to that the bricks in rucksacks over sand dunes for fitness, fags and regular bevvies. A much harder, steroid driven life, tearing the body apart for, caparatively, less pay than todays spoiled kids.

As a union man myself, I'd say a strike would do them good .... they'll get no pay, loads of vitriol and maybe end up a little more grounded.

Do you know, as long as these shysters weren't paid during strike action then I would quite happily take a twelve month sabbatical from football. That should be sufficient time for them to spend their £millions and give us all a break from their cry arsing.

None of them are going to food banks any time soon.

It may also have the desired effect of hammering Sky Sports et al and may lead to them reducing the extortionate fees they charge the public to watch these prima donna's. In fact, when footie returned a lot of us may have awoken from our blissful slumber to discover that fan power. a refusal to bend over to these over righteous TV companies and life, in general, is much better when we're not spending our earnings financing a culture which looks upon us as simply being cash cows for the already mega rich and powerful 'chosen' elite.

In essence, a complete change in mind set and return to the values which made this the No.1 sport around the World and one where success is more measured than pre-decided and every club has a chance of success instead of just making up the numbers.

They'll have plenty of time to spend their millions once they retire at 35 and never have to work again

That's the trade off

You give away your youth and a normal life up until your 30's, at which point if you've been smart with your money you get to live the remaining 40+ years of your life in relative opulence whilst everyone else with "normal" jobs has to keep working until they die

Graft for 20-30 years and live a life of comparative luxury to a regular person, or slog for 50-60 years just getting by in a normal job

I know which one I'd choose if I could

Which has always been my take. Most people graft their nuts off and their retirement age keeps being put back. And a hell of a lot more shifts are put in too.

I never accept the argument that the pay us high but its a short career. So you stop at 35 and get a different job, even if it's stacking shelves. That's life. Why should anybody expect to be set up for life at 30, if its not everybody?

Mmy career teaching was 30 years til I was mentally and emotionally burned out (many end it sooner)- only double a footballers career.... but did I get half their pay?

Oh I don't think I'll even get to retire

I'm probably either going to work until I die or until I'm medically disqualified from doing so

Sadly I hope it's the former, because at least then my problems will be over, whereas I'll have to find some way of surviving in the second scenario

I'd trade all of that in for a high paying footballing career, even if it meant sacrificing a lot of stuff in the first half of my life. If you're smart with your money then the second half of your life can be incredible
